Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has often weighed up the possibility of him running to be US president, it seems to have been on the cards for a while now.

Fans had previously hoped he would run in the 2024 US election, and now Johnson has given a definite answer.

This time last year, Johnson said he'd spoken to advisors about the move into politics, saying he'd done ‘a small amount of research and analysis’ to see where people are getting the idea that he could be a potential president, and said ‘indicators are all very positive – in, for example, 2024, and in, for example, 2028’.

Unfortunately for his millions of supporters, Johnson confirmed he would not be running for office.

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, when asked by Jane Pauley if running for president was off the table now, Johnson said: "It’s off the table. Yes, it is off the table."

He continued: "I will say this, because it requires a B side to this.

"I love our country and everyone in it. I also love being a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me, is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.

"Because I know what it was like to be on the road and be so busy that I was absent for a lot of years when my first daughter [was] growing up… At this critical time in their life – that’s what the presidency would do.

"So, my number one priority is my daughters."

The Rock has three children: 21-year-old Simone Garcia Johnson, with ex-wife Dany Garcia, and two children with wife Lauren Hashian, six-year-old Jasmine and four-year-old Tiana.

Johnson has often spoken on the potential of being US president one day, but his interest in the top job isn't enough to take him from his family.

He continued: "Sure, CEO sounds great! But the number one thing I want to be is daddy. That’s it."

This question was a short snippet posted to social media from a full interview that will air on CBS on Sunday (9 October).

After many suggestions by the man himself that he could go into politics, it will come as surprise to many Johnson will not throw his name into the hat.

The Rock has previously hinted he may run a presidential campaign in the future.

Last year, in an interview with Vanity Fair, he didn't rule out a presidential campaign.

He said: "I don’t think our Founding Fathers ever envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pickup truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people."

The comments came after poll showed that 45 percent of Americans would support celebrities such as Johnson to become president.
