Cardi B shares first close up look at her face tattoo

Cardi got the tattoo in honour of her son

Cardi B has shared her first close-up look of the tattoo across her jaw after some fans branded the ink a bad idea.

The rapper, 30, is no stranger to going under the needle, having previously sat for hours to get a huge, colourful piece drawn across her back and over her bum.

She's also had tattoos done on her arms, legs and stomach, but it wasn't until last year that she decided to add to the collection with some ink on her face to honour her son, Wave.

Cardi shared the idea with fans in January 2022, writing on Twitter: "Random but ….I’m 1% close too tatting my sons name on my face….I really really wanna do it!"

Many of her followers initially warned against the idea, with one writing: "Don't do it, you have an amazing face your [sic] so beautiful if anything put his name close to your heart so you will always know that he has your heart."

Cardi wasn't going to be swayed though, and that one percent soon turned to 100 percent as last August tattoo artist Robinson De Los Santos shared a video of her having Wave's name written in red ink.

Fans got a slightly better look at the completed version last month, when Cardi and husband Offset gazed at each other across a table on Valentine's Day, but it wasn't until this week that the rapper finally gave fans the image they'd been waiting for.

She took to both Twitter and her Instagram Story to share the snap which honed in on the earlier picture to more clearly show the word 'Wave' written in red towards the top of her jawline.

Cardi and Offset announced the arrival of their second child together in September 2021, making a big sister out of their firstborn, Kulture.

Despite the initial warnings she received against having Wave's name tattooed on her jaw, Cardi made clear she was happy with the decision as she wrote alongside the photo: "Love my face tatt."

Though not everyone is in agreement, the star received praise from a number of fans who described the picture as 'gorgeous'.

Cardi and Offset, who married in 2017, said they were 'overjoyed' to meet their son following his arrival, telling People: "He is already loved so much by family and friends and we can't wait to introduce him to his other siblings."

Offset is also father to daughter Kalea, and sons Kody and Jordan from previous relationships.
