Avril Lavigne's ex-Sk8er Boi breaks silence after she breaks off engagement from him

Avril Lavigne's ex-fiancé Mod Sun has spoken out after the singer confirmed that they had broken off their engagement.
Mod Sun, real name Derek Smith, proposed last March on a romantic Paris getaway, but reps for Avril confirmed last week that she had called it off.
At first, the real life 'sk8er boi' seemed just as shocked as everyone else when the news broke, but now he seems to have come to terms with the split.

After a spokesperson for Avril confirmed the break-up to Page Six, the publication then went to Mod Sun, whose puzzled reps commented: "They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour so if anything has changed that’s news to him."
They added that Mod Sun would continue his tour as planned.
But, in a post to Instagram on Tuesday, Mod Sun appeared to acknowledge the split.
"In 1 week my entire life completely changed," he wrote.
"I just know there’s a plan for it all. I’ll keep my head up and always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken.
"Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing. I have the best friends in the entire world, thanks for always having my back. See you on stage."
Just last month, Mod Sun had professed his love for Avril Lavigne in an E! News interview.
He gushed: "I have found such a partner in this world to go through the chaos that life gives you. I have found that person.
"I’m with a real grown woman who has gone through it all 10 times over and she makes me a better person."
His new album God Save The Teen had even included a song dedicated to his now-ex called 'Avril's Song'.
The two got engaged just a year after meeting, with both taking to Instagram at the time to announce the exciting news.
In his engagement announcement, Mod Sun had told fans he knew Avril was 'the one' from the 'day [they] met'.
Before she started getting serious with Mod Sun, Avril Lavigne had been married twice before - first to Sum 41's Deryck Whibley and then to Nickelback's Chad Kroeger.
The Canadian singer has spoken before about how she wasn't looking for love when she met Mod Sun, since she had been burned so many times before.
“Honestly, I really believed in love. And then I went through the wringer with it,” she told Nylon back in 2021.
"Then I finally got back up on my feet and had a relationship just to get f**ked over again.
"I was just like, ‘I can’t believe that I’ve been hurt or mistreated by this many people. I need a break from relationships.'"
While Mod Sun might briefly have appeared to be the exception to the rule, sadly the couple didn't get their happy ending.
