Aubrey Plaza wants to become the ‘female Tim Burton’ with her next project

The White Lotus star says the upcoming film is similar to Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus.

Aubrey Plaza has set her sights on something big: becoming the female Tim Burton.

The legendary filmmaker is responsible for the likes of Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and so many more.

His quirky, outlandish and incredible films have made him a huge name in Hollywood.

Plaza believes her upcoming, top-secret project could make her the female version of Burton.

In an interview with GQ, the White Lotus and Parks & Recreation star explained how she's been writing a film that she will also produce and direct.

“I’m trying to fill the female Tim Burton slot,” she explained.

According to the actor, the family-friendly project will be giving Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus vibes.

That sounds very tantalising.

But that's not the only 'female' version of a Hollywood ideal that she's been channelling recently.

During the same interview, she opened up about the fun she had while on set for Guy Ritchie's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

In the movie, she plays a CIA agent and was asked about whether the role was kind of like a 'female James Bond'.

Plaza replied: "If I’m the female Bond, what does Bond do? Bond gets the girl.

"Bond is objectifying everybody and also being a badass.

"So I objectified Statham the whole time. Literally slapping his butt. I think they were all scared of me.

"Like, who is this girl who’s coming in so hot?”

There's no denying Plaza is in hot demand at the moment.

Fresh off her work with the second season of White Lotus, she's set to be involved in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis.

After that, she'll be playing a 'pivotal' role in the WandaVision spin-off Marvel series Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

She admits 2022 has been one hell of a year.

“To go from Mike White to Francis Ford Coppola, that’s a good year for me,” she said to GQ.

“I’m trying to manifest this. I’m trying to work with brilliant directors.”

Plaza didn't reveal when her upcoming film will debut on cinemas or a streaming service, so we'll have to patiently wait until more information is given.

She also didn't explain whether she will also star in the project or let other actors bring her vision to life.

Hopefully all will be revealed in due course.
