A new open world game where players take on the form of a mouse is set to rival a popular cat game which has had gamers addicted.

The Spirit and the Mouse is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC this autumn, and if you were a fan of the film Ratatouille, you’ll be a fan of this.

In the popular cat game Stray, people have enjoyed stepping into the shoes of a stray cat. It was the debut adventure game from indie developer BlueTwelve Studio and publisher Annapurna Interactive, which follows the story of a street cat on a mission to find its family.

When people started giving it a go, one gamer described the new release the ‘purrfect game’ on Twitter, while another shared footage of their own cat clawing at the screen as they played, saying: “Stray is a 100/10 game. This is priceless.”

Stray described itself as a ‘third-person cat adventure game’, and The Spirit and the Mouse appears to follow a similar format.

Created by Canadian developers Alblune, players will take on the character of a mouse and will get the chance to explore a small French village.

While on your adventure you’ll get to solve puzzles, create new relationships and jump into electrical boxes, according to Nintendo Life.

On the game’s site, the developers explain that players can expect to 'bring kindness and light to the people of Sainte-et-Claire as Lila the mouse.'

According to the game’s description you’ll also get to 'explore a small village, make electrifying new friends, and do good deeds for those in need in this lush narrative adventure game.'

People are already excited about the new release, with many saying it’s on their wishlist.

One user wrote on Twitter: “#1 on my wishlist!!!! can't wait to feel all the feels because of lila's preciousness.”

Another said: “Really nice looking game! Lovely mix of styles/characters I love, especially the Ratatouille-Disney style of it. Best of lucks with this project!”

The indie game has been created by Lucie Lescuyer and Alexandrea Stroukoff, who have a decade of experience in the gaming industry ranging from AAA console games to mobiles and indie games. This is the first game they have developed under their label Armor Game Studios.

They say their aim is to create immersive and charming 3D world where players of all ages can get lost.
