Fans of Grand Theft Auto have been left delighted following the latest announcement by Rockstar Games - with the studio as good as confirming the new game's location.

Today (December 1), the studio confirmed that the first trailer for the game will be going out on December 5 at 9am eastern time.

But that wasn't the only thing teased in the announcement.

Turns out Rockstar confirmed the news game's location, which is in line with previous leaks.

The tweet included a picture in soft tones, with a purple sunset background, three sea birds and, crucially, palm trees.

As many GTA fans will have spotted, it's all but identical to the imagery from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

One fan wrote: "Rockstar Games confirm trailer dropping on December 5 at 9AM ET.

"Vice City theme in the background!!"

"VICE CITY THEME," another added.

It has long been rumored that the latest instalment in one of the biggest franchises in gaming would be leaving San Andreas and Los Santos and heading east.

This would be a return to a setting previously explored in 2002's Grand Theft. Auto: Vice City.

For the unfamiliar, this is based in a fictionalised version of Florida.

Rumors are abounding that the game will be set in a city loosely based on Miami.

And the aesthetics of the picture that was tweeted with the trailer date announcement confirm this.

A still from GTA: Vice City, see the resemblance?

Rockstar had previously hinted that December would be the month to look out for when the company's president Sam Houser announced 'early December'.

The full tweet read: "In 1998, Rockstar Games was founded on the idea that video games could come to be as essential to culture as any other form of entertainment, and we hope that we have created games you love in our efforts to be part of that evolution.

"We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.

"We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you."

Fans of the series are, understandably, excited by the news.

One wrote: "The Best Video Game company of all time is back. God is so great."

Another posted: "Its been way too long and its almost time for a new GTA."

A third tweeted: "Oh Dear God… it’s happening".

The biggest day of all, the release date of the game itself, has yet to be confirmed.
