Donald Trump has told his supporters they should ‘lay down their very lives’ to stop Critical Race Theory being taught in US schools.

The former POTUS was speaking at a rally in South Carolina on Saturday night, addressing the crowd for almost an hour.

During his speech, he said getting rid of Critical Race Theory was a ‘matter of national survival’ and appeared to suggest his followers should be willing to ‘lay down their lives’ to do so.

Critical Race Theory is an academic concept that explores how America’s history of racism continues to have an impact in the US today. It’s based on the idea that racism is embedded in legal systems and policies, which is why it is still prevalent today.

During his speech, he told the crowd: 'As president I was proud to issue the world's first ban on critical race theory in September of 2020. Joe Biden rescinded that order, but as soon as we retake Congress, Republicans will ban critical race theory once and for all.

'They will also defund the racist equity mandates across the entire federal government. No more illegal discrimination in everything.

'Getting Critical Race Theory out of our schools is not just a matter of values - it’s also a matter of national survival. We have no choice', he continued. 'The fate of any nation ultimately depends upon the willingness of its citizens to lay down, and they must do this, lay down their very lives to defend their country.

'If we allow the Marxists, and communists, and socialists to hate America, there will be no one left to defend our flag or to protect our great country or its freedom.'

So far, 14 Republican states have already passed laws that restrict how race and sex can be taught, Education Week reports.

The Stop the Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees Act, or Stop WOKE Act, bans certain race and gender concepts from being spoken about or taught.

Governor Ron DeSantis said the bill was the ‘strongest legislation of its kind’ in the US and said it would ‘take on both corporate wokeness and Critical Race Theory’.
