New Footage Captures Mike Pence’s Reaction To Being Asked To Remove Trump From Office

A new documentary clip has revealed Mike Pence's reaction to an email asking him to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from power.

A documentary crew interviewed the former vice president on January 12, 2021 after they were subpoenaed by the January 6 committee. The interview took place a day before the House of Representatives voted to impeach Donald Trump as president after allegedly inciting the Capitol riot.

CNN obtained footage from filmmaker Alex Holder showing Pence's live reaction after a member of his staff shows him an email that includes the draft House resolution demanding he invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from power.

Pence is then seen telling his aide: "Yeah, excellent, tell Zach to print me off a hard copy for the trip home."

The following clip shows the former vice president saying 'I am always hopeful about America,' as a backdrop shows security fencing being erected around the Capitol building.

The footage, which has not been released before, was captured less than a week after pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building to protest Joe Biden's election win. The riot saw Mike Pence being evacuated after the mob was heard chanting 'Hand Mike Pence', raising concerns for his safety.

The same day Pence was interviewed, the House passed the resolution calling for Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from power, deeming him unfit for office. Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois was the only Republican to vote in favour of the resolution.

Despite this, the House impeached Trump for a second time on 13 January, 2021.

After the vote, Pence sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying he would not invoke the 25th Amendment. He wrote: "Last week, I did not yield to pressure to exert power beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election, and I will not now yield to efforts in the House of Representatives to play political games at a time so serious in the life of our nation."

The documentary is set to be released on Discovery Plus, with the crew having already confirmed that Pence declined to discuss anything related to January 6.

The documentary will also see Pence give insight into the process of Trump selecting him as his vice president and is set to feature how Trump slammed him, with one interview clip with Trump saying: "I think I treat people well, unless they don't treat me well, in which case you go to war."
