Russian TV channels fine Google $20,565,635,200,000,003,000,000,000,000,000,000

As rich as Google is, I don't think they are good for this much

Google might need to start saving if it hopes to pay back this mammoth sum.

Things are getting a little bit weird for the tech giant Google right now.

Recently, a Russian court has ruled that the company must compensate the Russian TV channels that have been blocked on YouTube.

The court hearing, held on October 28 in Russian court, said Google had to compensate to the tune of 2 undecillion rubles, a number with 36 zeros on the end.

This is roughly the equivalent of $20,565,635,200,000,003,000,000,000,000,000,000.

The court had previously ruled that the company would be charged a penalty of 100,000 rubles ($1,026) each day access to the TV channels remained blocked.

The amount of the fine would then double every week and continue to do so exponentially.

And now, here we are, with, basically, made up money numbers.

As you can imagine, $20,565,635,200,000,003,000,000,000,000,000,000 is quite a lot of money.

The sum is an undecatrillion, and is actually a theoretical figure of money.

Why is it theoretical? Well, because it is actually significantly larger than all total value of all assets on Earth.

So, unless Google has some secret planet's worth of wealth stashed away under the couch, it is highly unlikely they will set about ever paying this fortune.

People on social media have started joking about the pure ridiculousness of the whole situation, and expressed doubts the tech company will ever pay a sum even close to the court’s demands.

“Seems unlikely they'll be popping out to the bank this morning to arrange that...,” one user commented.

“That amount is roundabout 9 billions time more than the entire money and gold reserves on planet earth- I want to smoke what those judges were smoking, and I want to smoke it now!!” joked another.

“And what, Russia going to invade Google? It will be a one-sided war for google,” a third mocked.

“Oh, no... anyway,” a fourth joked.

Google was first taken to court back in 2020 by Russian media companies after it blocked access to ultranationalist news outlet Tsargrad TV and the now-defunct Internet Research Agency, according to a report by Novaya Gazeta.

This is when the company began accumulating daily penalties.

According to reports by RBC News, a total of 17 Russian TV channels have filed legal claims against Google.
