Donald Trump has made a faux pas regarding his meeting with Vladimir Putin, and the reunion hasn't even happened yet.
The president is set to meet Putin face-to-face on August 15, where the pair will discuss plans to end Russia's ongoing war with Ukraine.
Speaking at a recent news conference, Trump told reporters: "I’m going to see Putin, I'm going to Russia on Friday. I don’t like being up here, talking about how unsafe and how dirty and disgusting this once beautiful capital was."
The latter part of the president's remarks was about Washington, D.C and its supposedly rife criminal activity — something Trump is sending the National Guard to deal with.

Following Trump's announcements about meeting Putin, people have pointed out that the POTUS isn't actually going to Russia to meet the Russian leader, but Alaska instead.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has addressed this and said that while plans are still 'being ironed out' ahead of Friday, the talks will take place in Alaska – not Russia.
She did add, however, that there may be plans for Trump to actually go to Russia at a later date, BBC News reports.

In the wake of Trump telling everyone he was travelling to Russia on Friday, people have suggested that he has 'no clue' what's actually going on.
Someone tweeted: "Trump thinks he’s going to Russia. The meeting is in Alaska. He has no clue what’s going on. Russia wants some Ukraine territory. Trump wants to give it to him.
"But it’s not his to give. He’s not king of the world even though he wants to be."
Someone else said of the president's mistake: "Surely I'm not the only person who noticed that Donald Trump said he was going to 'Russia' when he was referring to his trip to Alaska, n'est-ce pas? He said it twice. Imagine if Biden said that."

"Trump isn't going to Russia, he's going to see Putin in Alaska on Saturday," wrote somebody else. "Trump not knowing where he's going! Time for a BRAIN CHECK!"
Another Twitter user questioned: "WTF does Trump keep saying he’s going to Russia on Friday?! Alaska is not Russia and never will be."
While people are right in saying that Alaska is not part of Russia, some years ago it was.

The US purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867 and it later became a US state in 1959.
Only the Bering Strait separates Alaska from Russia, which is why it's believed that the two world leaders decided to meet there on Friday.
