The incredible moment a sniper took a one in a million shot to blast a gun out of a man's hand without harming him is truly remarkable footage.

Back on August 16, 1993, 37-year-old Doug Conley parked a white plastic lawn chair in the middle of a residential intersection in Columbus, Ohio.

What happened next was truly upsetting as he aimed a 38-caliber revolver at his head.

Law enforcement were obviously quick to the scene, with Columbus SWAT sniper Mike Plumb, a Vietnam War veteran, moving into position.

You are probably wondering why a bloke with a sniper is moving into position at this point, though what happened next was truly one of the most impressive displays of marksmanship ever to be caught on camera.

Before all of that though, the standoff between Conley and the cops had been going on for two hours in the blazing hot August sun.

As temperatures reached a whopping 90 degrees, Conley began pointing the gun at himself, before waving it at officers and passing drivers.

He yelled at them that he wants to see his ex-girlfriend, but police instead called in Plumb to work his magic.

The war veteran took position under a pine tree just 82 yards away, fully sprawled on his belly.

Plumb focused the scope of his Austrian-made Steyr SSG PII black sniper rifle on Conley.

To this day, police describe Plumb as a 'bad dude', 'good dude' and the 'best dude' - so it really was touch and go as to how this could have gone.

Until that day in 1993, no Columbus police sniper had ever fired a shot in the line of duty.

And even when Conley came into the focus of Plumb's scope, the thought of pulling the trigger never came to mind.

But as the standoff was going on for far too long, Swat commanders decided it was time to for all of this to end.

Plumb was then given the order: fire!

The sniper was ordered to fire.

After a quick swig of his drink, Plumb sat upright in his chair and got ready to fire the pivotal shot.

He put his left hand on his knee, while with his right hand, Plumb lowered the revolver between his legs - subsequently into Conley's crosshairs.

The war veteran fired the gun, directly hitting Conley's revolver, smashing it into three pieces.

Now unarmed, SWAT officers were able to tackle Conley and arrest him.

Truly remarkable!
