Police have been forced to address the rumors that there's a serial killer at large after a recent spate of homicides in a Florida city.

In Jacksonville, Florida, three women have been found dead in just three days.

Cherrish Nunley, 24, was discovered dead on Saturday (November 15), leaving behind a five-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. Nunley was found unresponsive in a parking lot and sadly died at the scene.

A day later, Tiffany Felton's body was discovered under a bridge at Blanding Boulevard by a fisherman. Police are said to be treating her death as a possible homicide, says Hoodline.

Then on Monday (November 17), another woman's body was discovered unresponsive at a home. It isn't thought that this woman's identity has been revealed and the circumstances of her death were not immediately clear.

In light of there being three deaths in three days, people have speculated that there's a serial killer at large in the area.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) has denied this, however.

In a statement issued on November 18 on Facebook, they said: "JSO is aware of rumors circulating about a serial killer on the loose in Jacksonville. We can confirm these claims are FALSE.

"Our detectives are investigating recent homicide cases that involve female victims, following the facts and evidence in each case. We will share updates as soon as we are able to, but we want to reassure the community there is no danger to the public related these incidents."

The sheriff's office went on to urge people to contact them if they have any information on the three active cases.

Nunley's sister Justine Donaldson has created a GoFundMe page in the wake of her sibling's unexpected passing.

On the fundraising site, she described the late mom-of-two as 'a bright, beautiful girl, a wonderful mom and aunt, the best sister, and a great daughter'.

According to Donaldson, Nunley was 'shot and killed in a parking lot'.

She continued to write: "Due to it being unexpected, no life insurance or anything, we're raising the money for her funeral and any ongoing care for her children. We're asking for anything to help give her a beautiful send-off.

"She was killed in cold blood. She never got into trouble. She was a bright, beautiful girl, a wonderful mom and aunt, the best sister, and a great daughter.

"We will forever remember her, and she will not be another statistic. We will fight for justice. We will fight for her babies. We will fight for her."

At the time of writing, over $2,000 has been raised.
