A photo of President Donald Trump gripping a model of the world's fastest airliner has gone viral, but not for the reason he probably would have hoped.

The picture depicts a smiling Trump in the Oval Office holding onto a model of Boom Aero's Overture One.

It indicates that the 78-year-old's presidential jet is about to be replaced by the aircraft designed by Boom, which has been dubbed the 'son of the Concorde'.

Earlier this year, its XB-1 model broke the sound barrier as it traveled at an incredible speed of 844mph - 83mph faster than the speed of sound, which travels at 761mph.

Taking to Twitter, the founder and CEO of Boom Aero, Blake Scholl posted: "By popular demand, THIS very special Overture One model is now available for pre-order in the @boomaero Merch store! And these models are made in America!"

While he had a few responses related to his business trip to Washington DC, including one person asking: "Will this aircraft be manufactured in the U.S.A?"

To which Scholl replied: "Of course !"

Another asked: "I have one on order. Any estimate on shipping date?"

I'd imagine they're asking about the model of the jet not the actual jet itself, Scholl commented: "July. We are trying to speed it up."

The remainder of the comments were regarding a rather bizarre detail spotted in the background of the snap.

So, what was in the backdrop of Trump's picture?

Well, of course there were photos of former presidents hung on the wall, vintage furniture, flags and a statue of someone's head.

But if you zoom in past the ear that was grazed by a bullet during one of the Republican's assassination attempts last year, you'll sear Elon Musk looking back at you through the mirror.

It only took one person to zoom in, screenshot and comment it under the original post for hundreds of others to react to the Tesla CEO's shock appearance - with one user going as far as to claim the billionaire being hidden in the background was 'sinister'.

Another user typed: "That is so creepy."

Someone else joked: "Mirror mirror on the wall who’s the actual president of them all."

While one user commented: "@elonmusk go home bro or at least stop photobombing the president."

And a final simply wrote: "Jumpscare."

While Musk has been appointed co-lead of the Department for Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump admitted he 'settled' on the tech boss because he 'couldn't find anyone smarter'.
