US President Donald Trump has commented Chinese President Xi Jinping knows 'exactly what has to be done' amid the ongoing tariff war, while also referring to secret weapons.

Yesterday (April 9), China announced it would be introducing an additional 84 percent tariff on all goods imported into the country from the US following Trump's decision to impose 104 percent tariffs.

Trump then hit back, increasing the tariffs on Chinese goods even further, taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, to call out the 'lack of respect' from China to 'the World's Markets' and reveal he'd be raising the tariff to 125 percent 'effectively immediately'.

"At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the USA and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable," he added.

And it would appear Trump isn't quite done yet with his words of warning.

Trump praised President of China Xi Jinping to reporters while at the Oval Office, stating: "Xi is a smart guy and we'll end up making a very good deal. [He is] one of the smartest people in the world."

Trump powered on, going on to acknowledge the 'weapons that nobody even knows' about that the US supposedly possess - subtle.

Then he got back to praising Jingping, resolving: "Xi is a man who knows exactly what has to be done, he loves his country. We will get a phone call at some point and then it's off to the races."

Ah yes, comments almost just as stressful as Trump's capitalization of his tweets.

While Trump is busy playing tariff table tennis with China, other countries impacted by the tariffs can actually breathe a slight sigh of relief - the POTUS revealing he was issuing a 90-day pause on other countries' tariffs on the basis they haven't - and don't plan on - announcing retaliatory tariffs like China has.

His post to Truth Social continued: "Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90-day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10 percent, also effective immediately."
