Donald Trump’s journey to the UK was touted as a success but a former royal official has said the President made a royal blunder while during his visit.

Donald Trump told the American people he was visiting the UK to meet with UK prime Minister Keir Starmer to iron out the kinks in a new trade deal.

However, a former royal butler has said Trump actually broke royal protocol during his visit.

For those unaware, royal protocol applies to both the way the members of the Royal Family behave as well as how the public and others interact with the family.

There are a whole host of rules when it comes to meeting the royals that most representatives of foreign nations are also expected to adhere to.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold explained Trump’s blunder and said: “You should never call the Royal Family by their first names, even family use their correct titles, like 'Your Majesty.'"

This was in reference to a moment when Trump was speaking to reporters and addressed King Charles and Queen Camilla using only their first names.

However, Harrold also offered the president leniency on his royal blunder stating that there could be some exceptions made as he is American. In addition to this, it very much possible Trump is now aware of this rule in the first place.

Speaking to Slingo, Harrold continued: “Trump really should be referring to them as King Charles and Queen Camilla. It's a tricky one because, being American, he doesn't need to refer to them by their titles, but out of politeness and in the name of good etiquette, he should."

Harrold went on to say King Charles himself is unlikely to be all that bothered but added that it might rub some people the wrong way.

He added: “To call the royals by their first names, I would consider that a breach in protocol. The King won't be so bothered by it, but I can imagine the courtiers will not be best pleased."

Despite this faux-pas, Trump’s visit to the UK and meeting with Starmer has gone down well and the special relationship between the two nations shows no sign of stopping.

Following a meeting, speaking of Starmer, Trumps aid: “Any time we needed help, any time we needed any form of support, you've been there. We appreciate it very much, and we're going to continue onward."
