People on social media have been left distraught as they watched a recent ice-skating performance of two children who were killed in the American Airlines crash.

The skaters were two of the 67 people who died after the American Airlines passenger plane collided with a US military helicopter as it tried to land on Wednesday (January 29).

Flight 5342 was attempting to land at the Ronald Reagan National airport in Washington DC just before 9.00pm ET before the collision which saw both aircraft plummet into the Potomac River.

41 bodies have so far been recovered and authorities are still in the process of identifying all of those on board.

Ice skating partners Angela Yang and Sean Kay have been identified as the youngest victims in the crash that has resulted in no survivors.

The pair were heading from the US Figure Skating Championships and National Development Camp when they boarded the flight.

A video has begun circulating on social media showing the pair performing last year at a November 2024 competition in Plano, Texas.

The video shows the pair performing together before they go to sit with their coach and await their scores.

The pair even give each other a cute fist bump after learning of their high standing in the Midwestern Sectional Singles & U.S. Ice Dance competition.

People on Twitter offered their condolences for the pair following the tragedy.

One user wrote: “So very sad to see so many young lives cut short so soon. It didn’t have to happen.

“RIP Angela Yang and Sean Kay.”

Another commented: “My heart breaks for the parents and the fear those babies must have felt in their last seconds of life. God be with all the families.”

With a third writing: “I didn't know this had anything to do with the plane incident until after I watched the video. I am heart broken. RIP.”

And another wrote: “Ah, the cold grip of fate spares no one, does it? Tragedy, swift as a winter gust, has stolen two young souls before their time. Angela Yang and Sean Kay—partners on the ice, moving with the kind of harmony only the universe can forge—now taken in a moment of chaos.”

Authorities have begun conducting investigations into what exactly happened to cause the collision, with the black boxes from both aircraft having been recovered.
