An explosion has been heard in Kyiv as Ukraine is being hit by a second wave of missile attacks, according to reports.

An explosion has been heard in Kyiv as Ukraine is being hit by a second wave of missile attacks, according to reports.

An explosion was said to be heard near the Ukrainian capital late this morning, February 24.

An advisor to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy has also said Ukraine is being hit by a second wave of missile strikes.

At least 18 people are said to have been killed in a missile attack on Odessa.

Reports saying that multiple people have been killed in the south Ukrainian city come as the country said it was facing a second wave of attacks, Sky News reports.

In addition, at least six people were also said to have been killed in the Ukrainian city of Brovary.

A young civilian was also said to have been killed when an apartment building was shelled in Kharkiv, according to the Ukrainian emergency service.

The first wave of missile attacks occurred early this morning, shortly after Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered a military operation.

In a statement, president Zelensky said Ukraine has suffered 'serious losses' in the attacks and asked for blood donations.

US president Joe Biden was quick to condemn Russia's actions, in what he called a 'unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces'.

Biden added, 'Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable.'

UK prime minister Boris Johnson is also set to address the nation today to discuss the UK's response to the Russian military action.

The address comes after President Putin warned other countries against 'the temptation of meddling in the ongoing events' early this morning, as reported by the Financial Times.

In an address on state television, Putin said Russia's response would 'lead you to consequences that you have never encountered in your history'.

He added, 'All responsibility for the possible bloodshed will be fully and completely on the conscience of the ruling regime.'
