Ukraine: Kyiv Curfew Begins With Anyone Outside To Be Treated As Russian Spy, According To Mayor

A citywide curfew has been implemented in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and will be in force until Monday morning, February 28.

A citywide curfew has been implemented in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and will be in force until Monday morning, February 28.

Amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the curfew has begun in the city of Kyiv and will last 'until 8:00am on Monday'.

The city's mayor Vitali Klitschko has said anyone breaking the curfew will be treated as a Russian spy.

The curfew was originally anticipated to run from 5.00pm to 8.00am every day. However, it will now run without any breaks, The Guardian reports.

The mayor's office stated: 'For more effective defence of the capital and security of its residents the curfew will run from 1700 today, February 26, 2022, until the morning February 28.'

Klitschko said: 'All civilians on the street during the curfew will be considered members of the enemy’s sabotage and reconnaissance groups.'

The invasion first began when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops across the border.

So far, a total of nearly 200 people have been killed and 1,000 wounded, according to reports.

Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky has reportedly refused help from the US to evacuate and has since taken to Twitter to urge that the country becomes part of the EU and to welcome 'friends' from abroad to fight against Russia, even saying that he will supply them with weapons.

He said: 'We discussed this today with the European leaders. All the equipment and defence military help is coming to Ukraine.'

This morning, February 26, the city of Kyiv was described by journalist James Waterhouse, who is on the ground in Kyiv, as 'eerily quiet' amid the chilling air raid sirens that could be heard in the background of the broadcast.
