TikToker Idan Ohayon has died aged 28

Israeli TikTok star Idan Ohayon has died aged 28

Israeli TikToker Idan Ohayon has died at the age of 28, his family have confirmed.

According to Ynet, Ohayon died overnight on Tuesday (6 September) at Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, a coastal city 50km south of Tel Aviv.

The outlet added that Ohayon’s family said the cause of death was medical, and that his funeral was due to be held yesterday at a cemetery in Kiryat Gat.

The online star had more than 140,000 followers on TikTok and 52,000 followers on Instagram, regularly posting videos of himself eating as he poked fun at his weight.

A few months ago, Ohayon announced he was taking a break from social media, later returning to post new content that would rack up many more followers.

Speaking to Ynet at the time, he explained: "One day, I decided to return to social media, so I uploaded a video on TikTok.

"Suddenly, I reached 300,000 views in 24 hours, so I posted another video and another one, and views kept coming. I returned to my old life and gained a lot of followers and it was cool. People even recognised me when I was walking on the street and asked for selfies.

"Then I got a call from an agency that told me they want me for a reality show of social media stars, at first I had my doubts, but as I Googled and saw it was a serious agency, I agreed, went to an auction, and they informed me I'm in."

Earlier this year, Ohayon was also cast on a reality series called The Creatoks alongside a number of other internet stars, each battling it out to be named Israel's best content creator.

Since the news of Ohayon's death broke, many fans have taken to social media to pay their respects and honour his legacy.

"May his memory be a blessing," one wrote on one of his Instagram posts.

Someone else commented: "I'm in shock may his soul rest in peace."

A third wrote: "Idan tell me it's not real I don't believe it."

A fourth said they couldn't believe what they'd just found out, while another added: "I'm just in shock may his memory be blessed."
