Woman broke up with boyfriend on Christmas Day after receiving ‘vulgar’ gift

A Reddit user has been met with a resounding response after revealing why she broke up with her partner soon after Christmas Day

A woman has opened up about why she broke up with her partner after exchanging gifts on Christmas Day and everyone's saying the same thing.

Ah Christmas. It can be a tricky time of the year to say the least - so if you survived the day yesterday then congratulations.

Others? Well, they weren't so lucky, including one man who's girlfriend broke up with him after exchanging gifts on Christmas Day, although, it wasn't simply about the present.

A Reddit user u/Jealous-Cycle-2318, aged 28, took to the thread r/AITAH - a.k.a. Am I The A**hole? - to explain why she broke up with her 38-year-old partner.

She explained she woke up 'very early in the morning' one week to buy presents for her boyfriend and his 16-year-old daughter while also being in the middle of moving houses, 'dealing with a new job position' and having 'a lot going on' in general.

The post continues: "To be fair, there’s an income gap between us, but even a pair of affordable earrings could have made me feel happy. Because the house is a mess, I even closed off the living room with curtains so that the stack of boxes and things wouldn’t make the Xmas decorations look ugly. I made sure the tree looked nice, I bought the food that he likes and I made myself pretty for him."

Sadly, her efforts weren't as appreciated as she hoped.

The user continued saying that when her partner arrived, 'the first thing he did was to make fun of [her] makeup' alongside her Santa hat and 'laughed like [she was] some ridiculous cartoon'.

It didn't end there either, as while they all ate and talked together and her partner liked the Airpods she had gifted him, his daughter receiving Hot Topic stuff and loving it too, he then took over an hour to get back from dropping her off at her mom's.

The post continues: "We were supposed to spend time together, but he came back about three hours later because his mother had visitors and he wanted to catch up. He sat watching tv and gave me zero affection. He gave me his present which TBH, I would have preferred not to get anything. I’m not a drinker. He got me a small wine bottle that I’ve seen marked at 3-5 USD at the 7-11. I know I wasn’t at my best because he said my face changed. He has a job. He could have gotten something actually thinking of me. I felt horrible when he said he would give me an IOU and that the rest of my present was in his pants. I ignorantly thought it was some game.

"Maybe he hid a small gift inside his pants? Nope. I was supposed to take his boy parts as a gift."

The user admitted she was 'furious' as despite being a 'very sexual' person she thought the supposed present was 'cheap' and actually 'vulgar' so much so, she asked her boyfriend to leave, 'thanked him for giving [her] the worst Christmas and took back [her] present'.

The post resolved: "I cried after he left and when he texted me if I was okay I broke up with him and blocked him. His siblings have been trying to reach me. I’ve blocked them all. One of them accused me of being materialistic and shallow. And also said that not everyone has a fancy job and that I'm unfair for expecting a certain level of gifting. AITA???"

As you can imagine, it's not taken long for people to weigh in.

A user said: "You didn’t break up with him because you’re materialistic. You broke up with him because he showed you his disdain, contempt, dislike, disrespect and disregard for you. And once they show it, there’s no coming back from that."

"Finally someone that took the red flag and shoved it right up their ass the first time. Love that for you Op," another added.

A third commented: "It was the gift in his pant comment … that’s just ..no!"

And a fourth resolved: "NTA I’m sorry, but he doesn’t even like you. He just likes what you do for him."
