Health expert reveals simple lifestyle habit that could transform your sex life

The simple act can make a huge difference in the bedroom

An expert has revealed that a simple but often-overlooked lifestyle habit could boost your sex life.

From health conditions and certain medications to work stress and tiredness, everyday life can take its toll on our libido.

But following one easy rule each day could boost your experience between the sheets - and you don't need to resort to supplements or complicated routines.

It comes as new data from leading sexual wellness experts, Lovehoney, found that a quarter of people have experienced muscle cramps during sex.

And it doesn’t stop there: eight percent have even cramped up during masturbation. Millennial men are apparently most prone to this, with 35 percent reporting cramps mid-romp.

This does come with an easy fix though which has been proven to boost sexual satisfaction: 22 percent of people who followed the lifestyle habit rated their sex lives 10/10, compared to just 13 percent of those who didn't.

They also wanted to have sex more too: 66 percent who did it reported a high libido, compared to 52 percent who didn't.

So what do you have to do to boost your sexual satisfaction? It's as simple as remembering to re-fill your water bottle.

Turns out, not drinking enough water can throw up some unexpected hurdles in the bedroom - remember those muscle cramps?

We should be drinking six to eight glasses of water a day to help our overall health; it helps regulate our body temperature, lubricates joints and even aids in digestion.

But shocking new survey statistics from the UK shows that adults are thirsty - and their sex lives are taking the hit.

How does hydration impact our sex lives?

Lovehoney's new survey data, in partnership with new electrolyte hydration brand SULT, found that 67 percent of Brits are drinking less than the recommended water intake a day. Eight percent are consuming less than a single glass.

And it’s not just the Brits falling short. A Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that worryingly, eight percent of US adults 'rarely or never' drink water, while a quarter consume only one to two glasses a day.

Hydration levels are directly impacting desire and performance. Some 38 percent of Brits say being dehydrated makes them less in the mood for sex or self-pleasure.

The most common reasons? Low energy (61 percent) and dry mouth (38 percent) - not exactly turn-ons.

“Hydration and libido are more connected than most people realize. Staying hydrated supports good blood flow along with your hormone regulations and energy levels, all of which are essential for sexual arousal and performance.

"Think of water as your body’s natural fuel - when you’re running low, so is your sex drive!

"This research shows dehydration is one of the most overlooked bedroom blockers."

How to up your water intake

If you've been struggling for motivation to keep your water bottle topped up, then perhaps better sex is the incentive you've been missing.

According to the Mayo Clinic, one simple trick is to build water into your daily routine - like having a glass before brushing your teeth, before meals or after a bathroom break. You can even set hydration reminders on your phone to keep you on track.

Adding some healthy extras to your water - like oranges, cucumber, watermelon, strawberries and herbs - can keep things more interesting. The same can be said in the bedroom, I'm sure...

In fact, increasing your intake of water-rich fruit and veg in general - like melon, cucumbers, lettuce and celery - can also keep you better hydrated.
