We've all experienced a bad kiss at some point in our life but there's a blueprint you can follow to spare your blushes, according to a host of experts.

Rejection sucks, especially romantic rejection.

And it's even worse when you think you might be getting somewhere, like your first kiss.

However, if you find that your romantic prospects go nowhere after a snog, then you might not be the only one as a 2007 study of more than 200 people revealed that around two in three people have experienced rejection following their first kiss with said potential suitor.

And according to experts, there's five reasons as to why that may be the case - so let's get into it.

Sticking your tongue in too quickly

You want to start off slowly and gradually progress, if you're going full throttle and expecting to make-out from the beginning the chances are you're going to be dubbed a bad kisser, explains sex-pert Antonia Hall.

"It's important to connect lips with just the right amount of pressure and limit saliva exchange. It's a bad sign when the person you're kissing puts their hand to their mouth to wipe away saliva or soothe their sore lips after kissing you," she told Business Insider in 2019.

Another thing she noted is that you also should keep the tongue action to a minimum at the beginning.

Bad breath

Okay, this is an obvious one; why would anyone want to kiss someone whose breath pongs - no, thank you.

Before you head out on your date or wherever it is you're going, make sure you haven't got chapped lips and your breath smells nice, Hall explained.

Tilting your head all wrong

A team of scientists in Bangladesh discovered in 2017 that most people tilt their heads slightly to the right when kissing, with men more than 15 times to be the initiators of said kiss compared to women.

While another study (via Business Insider) suggested that when people kissed their partner when they tilted their heads to opposite directions, they felt more uncomfortable.

So tilt your head the same way to save your blushes!

Poor communication

Then there's the communication, although it's probably not something you could do on your first kiss with any potential match.

If you've been with someone long enough, or maybe even a few dates into your relationship, you could simply ask for a bit of feedback.

It could really go a long way... if you take what they say on board, of course.

Dana McNeil, a marriage and family counsellor based out of San Diego, California, told the publication: "Instead of guessing, it shows the strength and level of trust that exists in a relationship when we can check in with each other about what does and doesn't feel good."

Pay attention to subtle kissing signs

Speaking to WebMD, Jeremy Nicholson, a social and personality psychologist, said: "Kissing is almost like dancing with your lips.

"You need to read your partner and figure out what style of kiss they're interested in."

So there you go, hopefully these five tips can help you land the partner of your dreams.
