Unbelievably, an American truck driver has won the lottery three times in less than a year using the same five numbers.

A 52-year-old truck driver is potentially the luckiest man alive after he revealed he had hit the jackpot of a Pick 5 lottery game three times in the past year.

Back in May 2022, the unnamed man apparently scored his first jackpot win by placing a small $1(£0.80) bet using the digits ‘48548’.

He played the same string of numbers on two different lottery tickets.

It could be said that Lady Luck was definitely on his side as he came out of his original draw with a staggering $100,000 (£80,418).

However, the self-proclaimed ‘Big Winner’ didn’t stop there, as on 19 April he revealed to Maryland lottery officials exactly how he’d claimed a third win in just 11 months.

“I play lottery all the time. You never know,” he said. “You can’t win if you are not in it."

It’s reported that throughout 2022, the truck driver repeatedly bet that ‘48548’ would be drawn again in the Pick 5 lottery game — and he was right.

“It hit last year and it hit again,” he told lottery officials. “My wife said, ‘Let’s play this number’ and we keep winning with it.”

In his third jackpot, drawn on April 13, the big winner headed to the Maryland lottery headquarters to claim a whopping $50,000 (£40,209) in prize money.

This now brings his and his wife’s total earnings to a colossal $150,000 (£120,627) in less than 12 months.

It’s also reported that the store he bought his $50,000 winning ticket from, Big Mouth Beer, Wine and Liquor, will be receiving a $500 (£402.09) commission.

According to Metro, the anonymous man plans to continue fishing for more lottery wins and will still bet small.

The Miami Herald also states that the big winner plans to use the money to take his wife on a “much-needed vacation” and visit some racetracks.

While the Charles County truck driver is splurging his winnings on a holiday, another American resident decided to do something a little bit different with his lottery winnings.

Back in January, a South Carolina native won $150,000 in the Powerball draw. However, instead of soaking up the limelight and taking the money for himself, he selflessly decided to donate the sum to charity.

According to CBS12, the South Carolina store which sold the anonymous lottery ticket is set to receive a $1,500 bonus, while the rest will be heading to an unspecified charity.

It’s easy to see why the recent big winner and the aforementioned South Carolina man have decided to fly under the radar.

However, keeping names out of the press isn’t the most extreme length that a lottery winner has gone to.

Some have dressed up as Darth Vadar, while others have decided to not tell a soul about their grand prize.

So, maybe there’s some luck in ‘48548’? But you know, you have to be in it to win it!
