Here are the three things the much-talked about Netflix documentary on the Gabby Petito murder left out about the case.

Nearly four years ago, travel influencer Gabby was murdered while on the road with her fiancé Brian Laundrie.

22-year-old Gabby and 23-year-old Laundrie set off on a cross-country trip of a lifetime in July 2021, living the dream in a Ford Transit van that had been converted into a camper van.

But their seemingly perfect relationship from the outside was anything but, as Laundrie quickly became a suspect in Gabby's murder.

Brian himself was found a month after Gabby's boday, deceased in Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 202, with a note that confessed to the murder of his soon-to be wife.

Gabby's autopsy would reveal that the 22-year-old vlogger died by 'blunt force injuries' to her head and neck and 'manual strangulation'.

The horror story is being told in the three-part series American Murder: Gabby Petito which has released on Netflix, for which you can watch the trailer here:

While the series does a good job in telling the shocking story to audiences, a report by Vulture has noted three things about Gabby's murder that were ultimately not told in the documentary.

The Petitos' civil lawsuit against the Laundries

Last February, Gabby's family filed a lawsuit against the Laundries.

While details of the legal battle remained confidential, both sides later released a statement. In order 'to avoid further legal expenses and prolonged personal conflict', both sides agreed to keep it confidential, according to the Petito family.

"Our hope is to close this chapter of our lives to allow us to move on and continue to honor the legacy of our beautiful daughter, Gabby," they added.

The family also sued Utah’s Moab Police Department, seeking a massive $50 million in damages back in November 2022.

They claimed officers did not do enough to keep their daughter safe after receiving a 911 call saying Gabby had been slapped by her husband-to-be.

The lawsuit was dismissed in November 2024, but the family has since appealed the decision.

Judson Burton, an attorney for the Petito family, said: "Gabby’s family is determined to see justice served. They have appealed to the Utah Supreme Court, hoping to change the law to prevent future victims of domestic violence from slipping through the cracks of an inadequate system."Their courage and resilience in this ongoing legal fight are poised to have a lasting impact on the state’s approach to law enforcement and governmental accountability."

The Laundries paid a wrongful death settlement to the Petito family

The Petito family received a $3 million wrongful death settlement from Laundrie's parents, Roberta and Christopher Laundrie, in March 2024.

Laundries’ attorney, Steven P. Bertolino, said: "The documentary was what we expected. One perspective depicted as the ‘truth’ as seen through their lens. Similar to Republicans and Democrats fighting it out lately.

"Each side believes their perspective is correct. Hard to see through the lens of the other with all the noise and distrust."
