When it comes to sex and maintaining a great sex life, you don’t typically think about what you’re eating beforehand…but it can make a lot of difference.

There’s nothing as good as treating your body like a temple.

According Alisa Hichens, to registered nutritionist, your diet directly affects your libido, energy and even how you taste...ahem…down there.

She said: “What we eat impacts on how we feel, principally our energy levels and our appetite for sex.”

Here’s what she said can help you if you think you’re stuck in a rut.

What not to eat

If you’re not eating whole foods with protein, fruits and veggies, and healthy fats… you might not be getting the best out of your sex life.

This is because you can actually end up making yourself less appealing.

Garlic and onions

“Some things make your juices less pleasant - garlic and onions, for example, and even red meat could make secretions stronger,” she said.

Alcohol and coffee

If you like a morning cup of joe, and an evening tipple, alcohol and caffeine are dehydrating, which could make your…flavors more concentrated.

Alcohol can also reduce your sensations, slow your arousal and stop your penis from functioning properly at times.

Fast food and high fibre veggies

Heavy, greasy meals can leave you feeling bloated, and high-fiber foods can cause gas, which can ruin the moment.

Nobody is eating a burger and fries, a huge plate of broccoli and beans and feeling like they’re in the mood.

Instead of crashing out and eating chips, pizza and candy…there are other foods which can actually help you to both feel good mentally, and sexually too.

So, instead of rolling in ultra-processed foods, you should be nurturing your body and reaping the sexy rewards.

Try it out.

What you should eat

Fruits

Fruits are sweet, hydrating and are actually natural Viagra-imitators.

According to Hichens, fruit like pineapple, citrus and watermelon are the perfect snacks to get your gears running, and keeping your body healthy for sex.

“Pineapple - apparently this makes bodily fluids taste milder and sweeter, potentially due to its high natural sugar content and enzyme bromelain,” she explained, and shared that watermelon contains citrulline, which is an amino acid that improves blood flow.

Spices

No more will you be seasoning your food with just salt and pepper.

Fragrant spices like cardamom and cinnamon might also keep your sex life lively, but it has yet to be proven and is mostly just speculation.

It couldn’t hurt to try it, though.

Water

Dehydration is not what you want to have when you’re trying to keep your sex life in its prime.

This is because it can make you feel groggy, tired, and it’ll also make you smell and taste…more potent…which isn’t always a good thing.

Instead, drinking enough water one of the best things you can do for your sexual health.

“Low energy equals low libido,” Hichens explained, stating that any form of dehydration can cause fatigue.

She added: “If you're running on empty, your body prioritizes essential functions over desire.”

According to her, ‘dehydration can contribute to vaginal dryness’, which does not make for comfortable sex.

But for men, a lack of water can affect erectile function, as it works against nitric oxide production, a compound that helps blood vessels relax and expand.

Basically, if you want a 'happy ending', you need to drink water.

Veggies

Leafy greens like spinach, arugula, and kale are also some of the foods that are great for your sex life as they contain nitrates.

Garlic, although it has its downsides, is another thing to keep on hand as it improves, circulation and overall cardiovascular health, which is going to help you to get aroused, and have the stamina for your rompy sessions.

“Bottom line is, good blood flow equals better arousal, stronger orgasms, and more physical pleasure - so what's on your plate really does make a difference,” she added.

Beetroot is another food which contains nitrates, and then converts to nitric oxide to open up blood vessels.
