Alongside the food tasting pretty good, McDonald's is renowned for its cheap and cheerful takeaway food.

It is not exactly uncommon to head into a Maccies and get a nice meal for under $10 - something that is not possible with a lot of takeaway places.

However, customers have been left disappointed recently at the lack of dollar food offerings on the chain’s popular $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu.

TikToker Anna Arroyo recently went viral regarding the matter after complaining about the McDonald's prices.

After noticing a lack of options at a restaurant in Niles, Ohio, Arroyo said: "McDonald’s has a dollar menu right now without a single item that costs $1."

The TikToker discovered that the cheapest food on the menu were a McChicken and small French fries for $1.99 each.

The drive-thru menu featured in the video saw fountain beverages and frozen drinks priced above a dollar.

The prices have shocked customers.

Meanwhile, soft drinks and iced tea were $1.29, and iced coffee and frozen soda drinks even more expensive at $2.

Many have since flocked to the comments section of the TikTok video, recalling their own experience and shock at the cheapest food items on the menu at McDonald's.

"I noticed that today when I went to go pick up my free app cheeseburger that was 15k pts. 10 piece nugget meal was $9!! The absolute audacity," one person penned.

"McDouble, small fry, large drink used to be around 5 dollars where I live. It’s now over 9," a second added.

"I still remember the day I walked into McDonald’s with my few dollars in pocket change and had to choose between the fries or the tiny cheeseburger," a third recalled.

Arroyo spoke further in an interview with Business Insider, saying: "I think that the title Dollar Menu is a misnomer.

"They are trying to capitalize on an old business model that no longer exists, and it just brings more attention to their inflated prices. The Under $3 menu would be more appropriate. I miss the days of being able to get a regular hamburger for 89¢ and a small fry for $1."

Of course, inflation in the US is higher than its even been, which is going to contribute to higher prices.

Business Insider states that McDonald's have stated in earnings calls that menu prices have been part of the plan to keep up with inflationary pressures.

As a result, a lot of this is being passed on to the consumer.
