Footage has emerged of a Florida man leaping into action to protect his dogs from a charging bear.

Over in the UK, we really do take our relatively tame wildlife for granted. We don't have to worry about poisonous spiders lurking in our home, alligators crawling across our gardens or snakes slithering around our lofts.

In countries like Australia and the US, people need to keep on their toes. For example, in August last year, My Wife and Kids star Tisha Campbell spotted a black bear taking a stroll through her local supermarket.

Check it out:

The video, filmed in Daytona Beach, shows the man on his front porch as his dogs run by him. All seems well, until a black bear appears out of nowhere at his door and appears to go for one of his pooches.

Immediately, the unnamed man charges back at the bear, pushing it out the door as the animal seems to try to claw him. Fortunately, it doesn't appear either the man or animal was harmed, with the bear quickly blocked by a nearby bench.

The clip was shared to the r/PublicFreakout subreddit by u/RenaissanceDude596, where it's racked up hundreds of comments. 'Florida is like the world of Far Cry comes to life. In a world where every single species are out to get you,' one user wrote.

'Former Florida resident here. When I walked dogs I was always EXTRA careful in that state, mostly watching out of snakes, fire ants, and alligators (and panthers and bobcats, the list goes on)... didn't even know they had bears there,' another wrote.

'Florida is the Australia of America when if comes to wild life that will f*ck you up and kill you,' a third commented. 'We're used to the dangerous animals down here. The alligators are absolutely everywhere, a bear is a bit more unexpected, but if you're always ready for an alligator then you're more prepared than the man who's expecting nothing,' another wrote.

'Wait! Hold the f*ck up. You're telling me Florida has alligators, snakes, bugs that will f*cking kill you, sharks, meth heads, other bad Florida people and then... black bears?' a fifth wrote, to which another joked, 'There's a reason Walt Disney got all that land so cheap!'

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation confirmed a bear incident took place in the area, and that the dogs weren't injured. 'FWC bear biologists and law enforcement officers immediately responded to the scene and are attempting to capture the bear. Per FWC policy, staff will humanely kill the bear if captured since it poses a threat to human safety,' it said, as per Fox 35.
