In the wake of Elon Musk finalising a deal to buy Twitter, former US President Donald Trump has made a promise regarding a potential return to the platform.

Trump, 75, was permanently suspended from the social media site in January 2021, with Twitter citing 'the risk of further incitement of violence' as the reason for the ban.

The former POTUS welcomed the news that the Tesla boss was set to become Twitter’s new owner, but ruled out making a comeback.

In case you somehow missed it, Musk reached an agreement to buy Twitter for a whopping $44 billion (£34.5b).

The sale has prompted speculation that Musk may overturn bans handed out to some users, including Trump, but it seems as though the former president isn’t interested and would rather stay on his own platform TRUTH.

Speaking to Fox, Trump said: "I am not going on Twitter. I am going to stay on TRUTH.

"I hope Elon buys Twitter because he'll make improvements to it, and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH."

TRUTH, operated and owned by The Trump Media & Technology Group, officially launched last month and is already seeing ‘millions’ of people signing up, according to Trump.

He added: "We're taking in millions of people, and what we're finding is that the response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter.

“Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can.”

When questioned on whether he felt Twitter would be a competitor for his social media platform, he said he doesn’t really see it as direct competition to what he and TRUTH are trying to do.

"This is a platform for my voice,” he explained.

“TRUTH is a platform for my voice and for my supporters, But I want everybody to come over to TRUTH - conservatives, liberals, whatever.”

However despite his vow to keep off Twitter, not everyone is convinced that the once-prolific tweeter would be able to resist if he’s unbanned.

Posting on Twitter, one user said: “He's already returned to Twitter via his quasi-presidential press releases that his people post here.

“He's not about to quit the most publicised forum. He lives for the exposure that he gets from Twitter.”

Another said: “Don't think for ONE second he's not coming back to Twitter. He will."

While a third commented: “There aren’t enough wild horses in the world to drag Trump AWAY from Twitter if Musk overturns his ban.”

Another wrote: “If Trump is permitted back on Twitter he will be back on Twitter. 100 percent no question.”
