Prison Break star Dominic Purcell once had the cops called on him while shopping in a pharmacy by a fan of the show.

Purcell explained that the woman thought he was a real prison escapee, so called the police, who arrived on the scene.

We’re not sure the woman can really be called a ‘fan’ of the show, seeing as she watched the entire first season under the impression it was a real-life documentary, but that’s neither here nor there.

Asked back in 2016 about his wildest fan encounter, Purcell shared: “I was doing Prison Break for a season this year, the show had just aired, and I was in a CVS and this lady called the cops thinking that I was actually escaped from prison.”

He added: “I kid you not that happened. The cops showed up and they just laughed.”

Prison Break ran for five seasons and first aired back in 2005. The series centred on brothers Lincoln Burrows (Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), with Purcell’s character having been sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit.

Series one followed Scofield as he devised a plan to break his sibling out of the clink, with later seasons exploring the siblings’ chaotic lives in the wake of Burrows’ escape.

Fans of the show were sent into a tizzy back in 2020 when Purcell seemingly confirmed a sixth Prison Break season was in the works.

Taking to Instagram at the time, Purcell wrote: "Rumor number 1. I'm old. Yes. I'm 50.....

"Rumor number 2. I'm bald. No I have a full head of hair; the people demand I shave it.

"Rumor number 3, Will season pb 6 happen. Yes.....

"Rumor number 4. Do I like humans? No. Not on mass. Definitely not."

The show was last spotted on screens in 2017, however Purcell's remark that season six is on the cards was at odds with the show’s network.

Fox Entertainment's CEO Charlie Collier said in August 2019 that the network didn't plan to bring the show back.

He shared: "There's no plan right now to revive Prison Break or any of the other franchises, but when the creators come with a story that they think is the right time to tell, we are so ready to listen because those are some franchises of which I'm so proud and feel so fortunate that they're in our stable."
