Whitney Houston's Ex-Husband Bobby Brown Says That Singer Would Still Be Alive If They Stayed Together

Whitney Houston's Ex-Husband Bobby Brown Says That Singer Would Still Be Alive If They Stayed Together

Bobby Brown has said he believes that his ex-wife Whitney Houston would still be alive today had they not divorced

Bobby Brown has said he believes that his ex-wife Whitney Houston would still be alive today had they not divorced.

Houston was found dead in a bathtub aged 48 at the Beverly Hills hotel on 11 February 2012. She had drowned and a coroner ruled that both cocaine and heart disease were contributing factors.

Brown and Houston tied the knot in 1992 and both suffered from drug addiction. The pair shared Houston’s only child, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who was found unconscious in a bathtub in her home in January 2015. In July that year, her father made the decision to have her life support machine switched off.

Now, in a new tell-all documentary, Brown has spoken candidly about his ex-wife and daughter, even visiting both of their graves for the first time.

A clip of A&E Network’s upcoming documentary, titled Biography: Bobby Brown, was leaked to MailOnline this week, and the R&B icon can be seen opening up on camera about Houston.

Brown, 53, said: “I think we could have helped each other out. I think she would still be here if we hadn't divorced.

“I wasn't there. I beat myself about it because I wasn't there. I wish I could have been there for her.”

He added: “We had made our beds and had to lie in them. We always felt that our love was strong enough to overcome any obstacle put in front of us. We would still be together if it wasn't for drugs. Drugs got the best of us.”

In the frank interview, Brown, who is best known for his days in R&B group New Edition, also spoke about deciding to turn his daughter’s life machine off.

Brown explained: “They told me she would not live a normal life. I was prepared to care for her for the rest of my life, being a vegetable. But my daughter would not like to live like that.”

He also claimed that Houston came to him in a dream and told him to ‘let my baby go’. “That’s what I had to do,” Brown added.

Brown visited the graves of his former wife and daughter for the first time on camera. Both women were buried at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, and planting a kiss on Houston's headstone, Brown whispered: “I love you.”

He also said: “I brought you guys some flowers. Sorry I have not come by. Sorry this is my first time. But you guys know I don't like cemeteries.”
