A recent documentary about the Jerry Springer Show has shed light on one of the most concerning stories attached to it.

Netflix has recently dropped a new documentary, Jerry Springer Show: Fights, Camera, Action, focusing on the notorious day-time TV show.

While the show was cancelled in 2018, after premiering back in 1991, people are still fascinated by it because of its reputation of carnage and unpredictability.

While that sounds like good TV, this chaos etched into the real world and often saw the show face outraged critics and demands for it to be taken off the air due to its ‘extreme content’.

One story that was particularly concerning is an episode that saw Nancy Campbell-Panitz confront her ex-husband, Ralf Panitz, and his mistress only weeks before she was murdered.

Campbell-Panitz wasn’t your typical guest and was described as a mild-mannered single mother.

However, she agreed to come on the show only to storm off the set when she realized what producers wanted from her, an attention-grabbing fight in front of a live audience.

Her son Jeffrey Campbell, who features in the documentary, explained the issues he had with the show as well as his thoughts on the show’s culpability for her murder.

He said: “To see her up there on stage looking like a deer caught in the headlights.

“I just wish I could go back and say, ‘Don’t do it.'

“My mother believed that Ralf had been deported to Germany and that the show was going to pay for his travel back to America, and that they would reconcile, and that he would tell his new girlfriend that he wanted to be with my mother.”

Even though she had been granted a restraining order against her ex, two months after appearing on the show in 2000, Campbell-Panitz was beaten and strangled to death by her ex-husband.

He was ultimately convicted for her murder and sentenced to life in prison. In his sentencing, the judge referenced the show and condemned both Jerry Springer and the producers.

In the documentary, the show’s executive producer Richard Dominick denied that the show had any thing to do with the murder.

However, Jeffrey disagrees and has said that he believes his mother was misled and continues to chastise the show.

He added: “I don’t think they’ve ever been held accountable for anything. People just watching this show and think. ‘Oh this is normal.’ It’s not.”

Jeffrey also attempted to sue Springer and the show's producers but dropped his case without any compensation.
