Grammy winner Killer Mike escorted out of awards and handcuffed after alleged altercation

Killer Mike went home with more than just Grammy Awards

Rapper and activist Killer Mike was taken away in handcuffs at last night's Grammys.

A video was shared online on Sunday (February 4) where Killer Mike - real name Michael Render - could be seen being escorted through the Crypto.com arena.

Prior to the incident, Render had bagged three Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album.

It's since been revealed that Render was arrested following an altercation in the arena and has now been booked for Misdemeanour Battery.

Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Division tweeted: "On Sunday February 4th just after 4pm a male adult was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court.

"The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division."

It added in a follow-up tweet: "The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Render and booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and is in the process of being released."

Further details about the alleged incident haven't been shared.

UNILAD has contacted Killer Mike's representative for comment.

Music fans have since hit out at the timing of Render's arrest in wake of his Grammy Award wins.

"Whew, what a way to ruin the night," one person penned on X.

"I hope this doesn’t take away from the monumental things he just earned."'

LAPD confirmed Killer Mike's arrest on social media.

"The timing of the arrest looks as if it was planned," another speculated.

A third went on: "I don’t care what the misdemeanour offence is, timing of the arrest is so wrong."

Others joked that the rapper had been arrested for 'stealing' one of his Grammys from fellow nominee Travis Scott.

In a similar jibe, Jay-Z called out the Grammys for not nominating his wife Beyoncé for Album of the Year.

While on stage collecting his collect the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award alongside daughter Blue Ivy, 11, the '99 Problems' rapper urged the Grammys to 'get it right'.

He continued: "At least getting close to right. And obviously it's subjective. Y'all don't gotta clap at everything. Obviously it's subjective because, you know, it's music and it's opinion-based."

Giving the nod to Beyoncé, Jay-Z went on: "You know, some things — I don't want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn't work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn't work.

"You know, some of you gonna go home tonight and feel like you've been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don't belong in a category. No, when I get nervous I tell the truth."

Don't hold back or anything, Jay.
