Foo Fighters have announced their comeback, with new shows later this year.

The band will be performing two special concerts in the UK and the US in September, in memory of their late bandmate Taylor Hawkins.

Sharing the exciting news to their Twitter account, the group said: "For our dear friend, our badass bandmate, our beloved brother…Foo Fighters and The Hawkins family bring you the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts."

Following the announcement of the special concerts, Taylor's wife Alison released a statement which read in part: "My deepest thanks and admiration go out to the global Foo Fighters community for the outpouring of love each and every one of you have shown our beloved Taylor.

"Taylor was honoured to be part of the Foo Fighters and valued his dream role in the band every minute of his 25 years with them.

"In celebration of his life, it is now up to all of us who loved him most to honour Taylor's legacy and the music he gave us."

Taylor sadly passed away earlier this year, when he was found dead in his hotel room during the band's tour of South America.

Announcing the death of the 50-year-old drummer, the group shared a post to social media, saying they were 'devastated' by the loss.

Their statement read: "The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

"Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time."

On the evening of his death, on 25 March, Foo Fighters were due to headline Festival Estereo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia.

However, the festival later confirmed on social media that they had pulled out of the event.

The statement said: "With a broken heart, we are here to let you know of very sad news due to a very serious medical situation the Foo Fighters cannot perform tonight and they have cancelled the rest of their South American tour."

The band had also been scheduled to play at Lollapalooza Brazil in São Paulo on 26 March, before heading home to the United States to continue the tour.

In the wake of his death, members of the global music community have paid tribute to Hawkins, with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker saying in an emotional Instagram post: "I don’t have the words. Sad to write this or to never see you again.

"I’ll never forget Laguna Beach days when I was a trash man playing in a punk rock band and you were playing with Alanis. You’d come watch me play in dive bars and be like, 'kid you’re a star'."

News of their return has excited fans, who have been sharing words of support to the band.

Writing on Twitter, one user said: "Miss him so much, constantly thinking about our Foo Family."

"Miss The Man...Ready to celebrate his legacy in the kick ass Tribute in London," put another.
