The Witcher showrunner says Henry Cavill was 'really annoying' playing Geralt

Henry Cavill was maybe *too* obsessed with The Witcher

A showrunner from The Witcher has said that former star of the series Henry Cavill was 'really annoying.'

Back in October, it was confirmed that Liam Hemsworth would replace Cavill in the fourth season of The Witcher.

This news was particularly shocking to fans, since Cavill's performance as Geralt of Rivia was out of this world, and loved by both critics and video game fans.

Many thought Cavill was perfect for the role because he loved the video games and books so much, and was willing to do anything to get the part - including pestering agents and creators until they were just about tearing their hair out.

Henry Cavill was a huge fan of The Witcher.
Netflix.

As soon as the star found out that a The Witcher series might be in the works, he got straight on to his agents to try and arrange a meeting with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

With all his heart, Cavill wanted the part of Geralt of Rivia - our supernatural monster hunter man - but he had jumped the gun a little bit, since Hissrich hadn't even written the script when he got in touch, per Vulture.

Even after she turned down Cavill's agents requests for a meeting, he persisted.

Eventually, after repeatedly nagging her for a meeting, Hissrich agreed.

"He was really annoying,” she shared, recalling that she told Cavill: “I will meet with you. The show is not green-lit. There is nothing. Thank you. Now I have to go write the show.”

Cavill, too, has admitted that he was a little intense about getting the role of Geralt.

"It was something I wasn’t going to let pass me by without giving it my best shot,” Cavill told Vulture. “I annoyed my agents all the time. They said, ‘They’re not ready.’"

When Hissrich did finally write the script for the Netflix series, she says she and her team auditioned 206 actors for the part of Geralt.

Before long, though, she realised that Cavill was the perfect person for the role.

And that was definitely the right call. Cavill got to training right away, so that he could work without needing a stunt double and do his own sword fighting.

"I spent all the free time when I wasn’t on set with a sword in my hand, getting used to the weight," said the actor at the time.

"I had three swords where I lived, four at work. It was practice, practice, practice."

Henry Cavill is leaving The Witcher after season three.

There's been a lot of speculation over why it was that Cavill left The Witcher before season four.

Some reports claim he was fired, others suggest he left of his own accord because the series wasn't book-accurate.

A theory that's already been blown out of the water was that Cavill was leaving so that he could return to the DCU as Superman - but he has since confirmed he won't be returning as the Man of Steel, either.

Whatever the reason, Cavill has been gracious about Liam Hemsworth taking his place.

In a statement posted to social media, he addressed Hemsworth directly, telling him: “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Until then, fans will get to see Cavill play Geralt one last time when season three of The Witcher drops this summer.
