A popular supe looks set to be returning for season four of Amazon Prime's The Boys, despite his apparent death at the end of season three.

Pictures shared on Twitter by Comicodigy appear to show the filming of season four for the popular show, with a group of supes standing together in an unspecified location.

To many fans' surprise, Black Noir was among the supes in the picture, potentially suggesting the character is indeed making a return.

This is somewhat surprising considering the character was killed by Homelander in the season 3 finale.

Perhaps the character is coming back in a dream sequence, or maybe he is alive after all - but that is all speculation at this point.

What Black Noir's potential return for the storyline of season four also remains unclear at this time.

Fans of The Boys have been reacting to the potential of Black Noir's return on social media, with many excited at the prospect of seeing him on screen again.

One fan speculated: "Flashback scene? A Train in old suit too."

A second added: "Could Black Noir be Invincible? Healing powers ?? remember when he got peanuts allergy? he died also there..."

Another said: "remember, no one knows he's dead except certain people and he wears a mask so anyone could be him. of course he was coming back."

The showrunner of The Boys has even hinted in a recent interview with Deadline that the Black Noir persona may live on.

Eric Kripke said: "Here’s what I’ll say without spoiling anything, which is that particular individual who is Black Noir is dead.

"His organs are out all over the place, but when you have a completely silent, completely masked-clad hero, they’re reasonably easy to recast."

Producers had previously confirmed that filming for season four was underway, with Amazon renewing the series for a fourth season just three days after season three released on Prime Video.

The Boys has been a big success for Amazon with season three seeing a 17 percent increase in viewership from season two.

That is a massive 234 percent increase since its debut on the streaming service in 2019.

Two new supes will be making their debut in season four; Valorie Curry's Firecracker and Susan Heyward's Sage will be hitting the screens soon.

Season four is yet to have a release date announced by Amazon, but it is expected to hit screens sometime in 2023.
