Fans of Stranger Things have insisted that Joe Keery would play a perfect Chandler Bing after watching his hilarious reaction to Tammy Thompson’s singing in season four.

In a now viral scene from the latest instalment, the actor, who plays Steve Harrington in the sci-fi series, is seen in the bleachers as Thompson belts out the American national anthem before their school's basketball game.

As she reaches the crescendo of her performance, a girl turns to Steve and says: "Wow. She sounds amazing, doesn't she?"

Not skipping a beat, he wearily smiles in faux agreement before rolling his eyes in total Bing fashion.

The moment has gone down a treat with viewers, who commented in their droves under a TikTok video of the scene, and discussed his uncanny likeness to the Friends character.

The video wrote, "Chandler Bing vibes I've been thinking it the whole time that is just such a Chandler expression", across it.

In response to the clip, one commented: "definitely such a chandler expression!"

"Technically, Steve was first. So Chandlers giving off Steve vibes," another quipped.

A third added: "I knew it reminded me of something aaaaa".

"I can't unsee it now," another commented.

Fans of the Netflix series were thrilled by Tammy’s appearance in the latest series after she was mentioned during a pivotal moment between Steve and Robin (Maya Hawke) in season three.

In a touching scene, which saw them retching in a bathroom after taking the truth serum, Steve started to express his feelings for his Scoops Ahoy! co-worker when she came out as gay.

Robin told Steve: "Tammy Thompson… I wanted her to look at me, but she couldn’t pull her eyes away from your or your stupid hair.

"I didn’t understand because you would get bagel crumbs all over the floor and you asked dumb questions, and you were a douchebag.

"You didn’t even like her and I would go home and just scream into my pillow."

Tammy Thompson finally made an appearance in the new series.

As Steve listened, he could only say: "But…Tammy Thompson’s a girl…?" then after a quiet moment the penny dropped and and Steve simply said "oh".

The heart-warming moment finished with the pals cementing their friendship by belting out Bonnie Tyler’s power ballad Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Tammy (Julia Reilly) was finally introduced in season four when she arrived at Hawkins High School to sing the national anthem after moving to Nashville, presumably to help launch her music career.

In the episode titled The Hellfire Club, Robin and Steve joked how the wannabe singer sounded 'like a muppet giving birth' as she attempted to sing. Only time will tell if we'll hear her sing again.

Volume 1 of the fourth season of Stranger Things is available to stream now on Netflix.
