Rainn Wilson thinks there's 'an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood' after watching the latest episode of The Last of Us.

The hit HBO series - based on the 2013 video game of the same name - follows smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal) who is tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States.

The nine-episode show also guest stars Nico Parker (The Third Day) as Sarah, Joel’s 14-year-old daughter, alongside Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Frank and Bill, two post-pandemic survivalists living alone in their own isolated town.

Following the most recent episode of the show, viewers have been critical of Hollywood's alleged bias against Christianity.

The Office actor Wilson took to social media to vent his frustrations at a villainous character who uses Bible verses as part of their persona.

The Christian preacher, who leads a group of cannibals, seemed to justify their actions by using quotes from the Bible.

Notably, one scene saw the preacher attempting to sexually assault series protagonist Ellie.

“I do think there is an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood," Wilson tweeted.

"As soon as the David character in The Last of Us started reading from the Bible I knew that he was going to be a horrific villain.

"Could there be a Bible-reading preacher on a show who is actually loving and kind?"

Twitter

Others seem to agree with Wilson's comment, while pointing out that the character 'wasn’t a pastor in the video game'.

New Christendom Press CEO Eric Conn tweeted: "Goes back to Mr. Collins in Austen’s 'Pride & Prejudice'.

"The preacher man is nearly always portrayed in a negative light. Also true of Hollywood today."

Evie Magazine founder Brittany Martinez also wrote: "As SOON as the pastor started reading from the Bible I knew he was going to be awful.

"I was like ‘watch that guy be David the creepy cannibal from the video game’.

"And then it was David. Shocked. Surprised.

"Never seen it before. He wasn’t a pastor in the video game."

“Defamation of Christianity has become the most unoriginal and tired cliches in movie/TV series storylines. It’s prevalence is much more than a bias against an entire people, it is meant to undermine faith and position the secular-minded as only ones with altruistic intentions,” LIBRE Initiative president Daniel Garza said.

The Last of Us is available to watch on HBO, while UK fans can watch the show via Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW.
