Friday can only mean one thing; time to turn the laptops off for the weekend and enjoy a ton of TV before Monday comes around once more.

There have been plenty of new releases this past week, so today UNILAD Ranked is bringing you five recommendations for a weekend of relaxation staring at the TV.

Prime, Netflix and Apple TV have all got exciting new releases this week, with some very big stars and familiar faces taking on leading roles and returning to fan favorite titles. With all of that going on, there really is something for everyone to enjoy over the next 48 hours.

So, let's get into it!

Stolen: Heist of the Century

Dropping on Netflix today (August 8), Stolen: Heist of the Century follows the true story of the 2003 Antwerp diamond heist, which involved over $100 million worth of diamonds and jewellery being stolen from the Antwerp World Diamond Centre in Belgium.

Dubbed the 'heist of the century', Leonardo Notarbartolo employed the help of many Italian thieves to help bypass security and pull off the mammoth heist.

Netflix's Stolen: Heist of the Century explores the men behind the masks and is a much-watch for anyone with a bit of free time this weekend, with reviewers describing it as 'suspenseful and surprisingly fun'.

The release is so new that it doesn't yet have a score on Rotten Tomatoes, so why don't you find out how it is for yourself?

The Pickup

This Prime movie dropped on the streaming platform on Wednesday, and with a cast including Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, Keke Palmer, Eva Longoria, Marshawn Lynch, and Joe Anoa'i, The Pickup certainly has an impressive lineup in front of the cameras.

The action-comedy takes a wild turn when two mismatched armored truck drivers are ambushed by criminals in what was meant to be a routine cash pickup.

Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Davidson) form an unlikely partnership in their attempts to battle the high-risk situation they find themselves in.

Fans of the movie have celebrated Murphy's talent as he took on the flick, with one writing: "I enjoyed the move the pickup! Eddie is just an all around great actor!!"

Another added: "Pickup on Prime with Eddie Murphy and Keke Palmer is hilarious. It’s really good too. Keke looks so good."

The Pickup comes in at number four on our list as some other viewers aren't so keen, landing it with a bit of a mixed reception and a score of 33 percent on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. Still, if you're a fan of the cast, it's worth seeing them in action.

Kandahar

Among the newest movies to come on Netflix this week is one which follows an undercover CIA operative who gets himself into a bit of a pickle after a compromised mission leads to him finding himself in hostile territory.

The CIA operative's translator ends up being a massive help, but that doesn't mean problems don't arise as he tries to reach an extraction point in Kandahar - hence the name.

Travis Fimmel stars in the new Netflix film, while the likes of Gerard Butler, Ali Fazal, Elnaaz Norouzi and Tom Rhys Harries are involved in the cast lineup too.

Don't just take my word for it, but fans are also loving Kandahar after watching the movie, which is based 'loosely' on true events and was originally released in 2023.

One person penned on Rotten Tomatoes: "Great film interesting characters not too violent good story. Really good film I think."

The movie sits at an impressive 82 percent 'Popcornmeter' and is set to arrive on Netflix tomorrow (August 9), suggesting fans highly recommend the new release. It's received a mixed bag from critics, however, landing it with a 45 percent 'Tomatometer' score.

Wednesday

Yes, Tim Burton's Wednesday returned this week and fans cannot get enough of the four episodes to have released on Netflix so far, placing it at number two of our list of what to watch this weekend.

Season two marks the return of Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Luis Guzman, and Catherine Zeta Jones, while the likes of Joanna Lumley, Lady Gaga, and Steve Buscemi have joined the cast.

Season one of Wednesday was watched a whopping 252,100,000 times, more than any season of Stranger Things, and just shy of the first season of Squid Game.

Basically, it's an incredibly popular show - and with Wednesday Addams attempting to master her emerging psychic ability and solve a long-running mystery, season two is a must-watch this weekend.

Wednesday season two has earned at an impressive 83 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, with the vast majority of critics loving Ortega and co's return to the screen so far.

Chief of War

In the top spot for this week's Ranked comes the latest series featuring Hollywood actor Jason Momoa, which is being lauded by fans as 'truly groundbreaking' after three episodes dropped in the past week.

Two episodes of Chief of War previously released on AppleTV+, while a third episode is now available to stream having released today.

Chief of War follows a Hawaiian chef (Momoa) who embarks on the ambitious mission of uniting the US state as its four kingdoms are divided by war.

After watching the first two episodes of the AppleTV+ show, one person penned on X, formerly Twitter: "Yo, I just finished the second episode of Jason Momoa’s Chief of War and it is SO f****** good.

"I’m honestly still processing but as a Native Hawaiian who has never seen an authentic story told on a big platform like Apple TV before, this is truly groundbreaking."

Chief of War has obtained an impressive 92 percent Rotten Tomatoes score to date, meaning Momoa's latest title is a huge success.

There you have it! Time to get stuck into some TV, I think.
