George Clooney's kids think he spends his days swimming instead of working

"They don't think I work"

Ahead of the release of his latest directorial endeavour The Boys in the Boat, George Clooney has revealed his kids believe he doesn't work, but just goes swimming.

George Clooney's upcoming biographical sports drama is full of heart and makes you brim with belief.

However, as he takes on the role of director once again, the only waves the 62-year-old's kids think he's been making aren't in the film and TV industry, but in the pool.

The Boys in the Boat is based on Daniel's James Brown bestselling non-fiction book of the same name about the inspirational true story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team.

The film 'follows a group of underdogs at the height of the Great Depression as they are thrust into the spotlight and take on elite rivals from around the world,' MGM Studios writes.

The Boys in the Boat stars Fantastic Beasts' Callum Turner, Joel Edgerton from King Arthur and Little Women's Hadley Robinson, and is directed by Clooney.

Unsurprisingly, The Boys in the Boat contains many a scene where the actors are on top of the water.

However, Clooney tells UNILAD there was one particularly 'tricky' scene to shoot where Joe Rantz (Turner) is out on the lake on a rowing boat with Joyce Simdars (Robinson).

"There was a nice shot on the lake, but the wind was blowing so hard," Clooney says. "And the job there was just, it was terrible [...] So we ended up shooting that on a tank."

And it's not the first movie Clooney's worked on where he's had to shoot a scene using a water tank instead, which has led to his children having a very different idea of what he does when he says goodbye and heads off to work.

Clooney explains when he directed and starred in 2020 release The Midnight Sky, his kids came to visit him on set.

He tells UNILAD: "One of the scenes I fall in the water in a snowmobile so we shot that in the tank.

"And my kids were three then - three and a half. And they never come to the set. And my wife brought him out to visit me the set. I'm in the tank in the water kind of floating. And my kids thought I was swimming.

"And so now every time I say I'm going to work, they think that just means I’m just going swimming. So they don’t think I work, they’re just like, 'He’s going swimming'."

Wait until they find out their dad's a multi-award winning actor, director and one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

The Boys in the Boat will be releasing in the UK and Ireland on 12th January 2024.
