Glee star receives backlash after revealing new baby's 'preposterous' name

Glee star receives backlash after revealing new baby's 'preposterous' name

People had a lot to say about the Glee star's choice of name for his new baby

Fans have been left stunned after learning what Glee star Darren Criss has named his second child.

In 2024, many parents are choosing to move away from more traditional names to ones which are a little more unique.

And while it can be a lovely way to have a distinctive name for your child, sometimes an unusual name can have some unexpected consequences.

For example, if you want to name your child after a favourite character in a show, film, or book, maybe wait until it's finished to make sure your favourite character doesn't have a very sudden shift.

Fans of Game of Thrones who named their kids 'Khaleesi' or 'Daenerys' know exactly what I mean.

On the other hand, if you're a Dune fan then 'Paul' seems a pretty safe bet.

But people have been commenting on Darren Criss' choice for a name for a different reason entirely.

The TV star and his wife, Mia Swier, took to Instagram to announce the birth of his son, leaving some fans doing a double take.

In a post to his social media page, the star wrote: "M & D just delivered their follow-up single. Brother László Criss, 6/3/24."

He added: "Out now. … and yes his first name is Brother."

And a lot of fans took to the comments on the post, with many of them saying the exact same thing.

They pointed out that if he needed to clarify what the child's name was, then it wasn't clear that was the name.

One wrote: "If you have to clarify that’s it’s his name maybe it shouldn’t be his name."

A second echoed the sentiment, writing: "If you have to explain their name is 'Brother' then a different name should be picked."

A third said: "If you need to say 'yes his name really is…', chances are you picked a bad name."

All the same, many fans were also very positive and offering their congratulations to the proud new parents.

One wrote: "Yeeeeesssss! So happy for you growing Family!! Love you all!"

Another offered their congratulations, and complimented the parents' choice of middle name for their child.

They posted: "Congratulations! (Lászlò is a nice Hungarian name;)."

When the pair announced that they were expecting their first child, they wrote: "We've been making music for years.⁣ ⁣ … But this time we made a BEAT

"The ultimate collab droppin Spring 2022."

The post then included an image of their child's heartbeat.
