The Haunting of Hill House fans are flooding to social media in praise of a new Netflix horror series.

It may have only been released onto the streaming platform today (Thursday, 12 October) but a new horror series has already been hailed the best since The Haunting of Hill House. Prepare to immediately call in sick to work to binge-watch the series:

Less than a day out of the starting blocks - released exactly five years after The Haunting of Hill House - and Netflix's new horror series has already achieved an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score.

Not only that, but the score actually matches that of The Haunting of Hill House - at the time of writing, both series with an impressive tomatometer score of 93 percent.

The Fall of the House of Usher is created by none other than Mike Flanagan and based on the book of the same name by renowned Gothic fiction writer Edgar Allen Poe.

It stars the likes of The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor actors Carla Gugino and Kate Siegel, Thirteen Days star Bruce Greenwood and Friday Night Light's Zach Gilford.

The look on Netflix viewers' face as soon as they start watching the series.

The official Netflix synopsis for season one - which contains eight episodes - of the series reads: "To secure their fortune - and future - two ruthless siblings build a family dynasty that begins to crumble when their heirs mysteriously die, one by one."

And horror fanatics who've already managed to dive straight into the new series are taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - in praise of The Fall of the House of Usher.

One user said: "The Fall of the House of Usher is my new favorite now. Sorry. DND for a while."

"The Fall of The House of Usher is already starting off bomb. this cast is amazing!!!!" Another added.

A third commented: "The Fall of the House of Usher shaping up to be my fave Flanaganverse media omg."

"Having not been able to get into any Mike Flanagan work after The Haunting of Hill House (which rocks) I entered with a hopeful heart…and found The Fall of the House of Usher good fun and surprisingly funny," a fourth added.

And a final resolved: "Currently watching The Fall of the House of Usher rn.

"Mygod, it's the first time in a long time that I've been this hooked on a non-sitcom, American show. Gothic horror is such a fun genre to watch, you know."
