Netflix viewers left confused with unresolved detail of new series on 'real-life Gone Girl'

American Nightmare looks into the kidnapping of Denise Huskins, who was taken from her California home in 2015

A Netflix true crime series has seen confused fans flood to social media over an unresolved detail in the show.

American Nightmare looks into the kidnapping of Denise Huskins, who was taken from her California home following a break-in back in 2015. Denise was held hostage for two days and her partner, Aaron Quinn, was left tied up.

Quinn was treated as a suspect before the pair were accused of setting up the kidnapping as an elaborate hoax, despite there being plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.

The three-part docuseries also looks at how the police and FBI's handled the case, sitting down with the couple separately to further delve into what they believe happened that night.

Spoiler alert: One of the many odd details to come from this case is that Quinn's ex--fiancée Andrea Roberts was said to be the kidnappers intended target. However, the kidnapper never said why.

It's believed that, as of right now, Andrea is keeping a low profile.

Quinn also explains in the series that, while he was tied up, a camera was set up alongside a square of red tape that was surrounding him on the floor. The perpetrator(s) told him that if he moved or tried to call the police, they would spot him. It seemed they were watching his every move.

Quinn paid the ransom money the kidnapper was asking for, but, after not hearing back, he broke away to alert the police and try to find his girlfriend. It's later found out that police eventually came across the camera, but the series doesn't really mention it again after that.

The FBI didn't seem to believe the kidnapping.

Huskins is also caught on camera carrying a duffle bag down to the beach. It's all a bit weird.

Less than a week after the program's release, the show has whipped viewers into a frenzy, with Netflix fans continuously taking to social media to share their own views of the events and try to debunk what happened.

One viewer took to X to ask: "You mean to tell me none of ya’ll are questioning this American Nightmare docuseries? Why was the comforter missing off the bed. Did we really not get any video evidence from the supposed camera the kidnapper installed?

"Why did she have a DUFFLE BAG? I still got questions."

Another X user wrote: "I want answers on Andrea and why bro was looking for her, Andrea’s link to the FBI agent, i want answers on why the Vallejo police officers still have jobs… I WANT ANSWERS."

One person wrote back: "THERE was still acquaintances that were connected!! "That FBI agent and Andrea are the people connected with the black market there was three of them like he said in the email. They should be investigated." The original poster then replied: "Exactly!!! They mentioned more people and they just settled with this one perp!! This case was sooo poorly executed!"

A third wrote: "Me too. That was one annoyingly unanswered question. Downright sinister."
