New Black Mirror season is changing to include things creator ‘swore blind the show would never do’

The new upcoming season of Black Mirror is changing to include things that the program's creator 'swore blind the show would never do'.

Netflix has finally announced the joyous news that, at long last, the beloved series will once again grace our screens after nearly four years without our Charlie Brooker fix.

The streaming platform dropped the trailer this afternoon (26 April) for the sixth season and it's clear that this year, Brooker will be taking the show to a whole new level. Check it out:

The sixth season of Black Mirror will be making its triumphant return to Netflix this June and it is already shaping up to be the 'most unpredictable season yet', the streaming platform promises.

While some massive components of any Black Mirror episode include unexpected turns, mysterious plot lines and often very dark subject matter - it's clear that season six is going to blow all of the show's previous system out the water.

So much so that even the show's creator, Brooker, has shocked himself.

"I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point?" the writer, creator and executive producer told Tudum.

"It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself."

The mastermind behind the ever-gripping series went on to explain why he engineers such shock-value and the kick he gets out of doing so.

Creator Charlie Brooker has included themes he 'previously sworn blind the show would never do' in the upcoming season.

He said: "Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect.

"Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what 'a Black Mirror episode' even is."

However, Brooker has assured fans: "The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through — but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before."

Phew.

And that exact sense of 'variety' isn't just reserved for the various themes surrounding each episode, as it also extends to the brand new star-studded cast joining the upcoming season.

"Bringing it all to life we’ve got an incredible roster of disgustingly skilful, smart directors working with a cast of actors so talented they frankly have no right to exist," Brooker revealed.

The new season boasts a 'cast of actors so talented they frankly have no right to exist'.

What a bizarre, but nonetheless certainly welcomed, compliment.

Such stars include the likes of Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Auden Thornton, Ben Barnes, Clara Rugaard, Daniel Portman, Danny Ramirez, David Shields, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney, Rory Culkin, Salma Hayek Pinault, Samuel Blenkin and Zazie Beetz.

We are, quite literally, on the edges of our seats.

Brooker concluded: "I can’t wait for people to binge their way through it all and hope they enjoy it - especially the bits they shouldn’t."
