A video showing what a camera operator sees during sex scenes has started doing the rounds online, leaving people both flabbergasted and in stitches.

In case you didn’t know... the sex scenes in films aren’t real. Though admittedly there are a fair few films that, over the years, have chosen to actually simulate sex to get that perfect shot.

However, the vast majority don’t have their lead actors actually knocking boots.

So, how do directors get the scenes to look so realistic? A video showing exactly how has got people talking and has begun circulating on social media.

It is not clear what set the video is from or what film or show is being shot, but the interaction itself looks awkward.

In the clip, the male actor is seen lying on a bed, position between the cameraman’s legs as he stands above and points the camera at the guy.

In what would have taken some serious maturity, the guy then begins thrusting the air as if he was in the middle of the act, the camera man catching all of his elated facial expressions.

In addition to this, the guy regularly grabs and strokes the cameraman's legs, I would hope simply to create the impression he is touching the woman’s body.

His female co-star is seen just sitting upright out of shot, awkwardly watching the whole spectacle unfold.

The clip was recently shared on X and people are certainly stunned and bemused.

“STOP there’s no way I could keep a straight face as the camera man,” one user wrote, as another joked: “Im not gonna contain my laugh if Im in that set."

“I've never seen anything as profoundly unnatural and awkward as this. If this is what is required for this angle, then that angle is not necessary,” someone else commented.

“No one ever needs to see something like this again. Once is far more than enough.”

So, while it looks awkward, surely it's always great fun to film? Well, no.

Actors have long talked about the importance of having intimacy coordinators, who do their best to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible and the scenes as natural as can be.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal has come out and said his filming of sex scenes with Jennifer Aniston were actually torture... well a mixture of torture and pleasure.

Speaking to Howard Stern on his radio show, the 40-year-old actor was asked if it was 'torture' filming those scenes with the Friends alum in the wake of his long-standing crush.

"Oh yeah, it was torture, yes it was,'' Gyllenhaal replied. ''But it was also not torture. I mean, come on, it was like a mix of both [torture and pleasure]."

Stern went on to ask: "Did you say to Jennifer Aniston, 'Listen Jennifer, I'm not trying to be rude here, if you're feeling something - protrusion or whatever - I can't control this'?"

Giggling at the word 'protrusion', Gyllenhaal said: "Yes, I said it just like that."
