There's a tough day at work and then there's this.

Actor Miles Teller has revealed he had an allergic reaction whilst on the set of film Top Gun: Maverick and doctors found actual jet fuel inside his bloodstream.

The 35-year-old revealed all whilst being interviewed for Late Night with Seth Meyers. The confession came as the actor promotes the Top Gun sequel that has been a box office hit since its release.

Watch the trailer here:

He shared: "We landed, and I thought, ‘Man, I’m not feeling too good.

"I was really hot and I just started itching like crazy. So I got out of the jet. I’m just covered in hives. Head to toe... I’m in an oatmeal bath that night. I have sensitive skin anyway, truth be told, Irish-Scottish skin. No dyes, no nothing."

Yet the allergic reaction didn't stop there. After visiting the doctors to check it wasn't anything more serious, a blood test revealed Teller had 'flame-retardant, pesticide and jet fuel' in his bloodstream.

After returning to set the next day, co-star Tom Cruise gave the most Top Gun-style response.

Teller explained: "Tom’s like, 'How did it go, Miles? What did they find?'.

"I was like, 'Well, Tom, it turns out I have jet fuel in my blood'. And without even skipping a beat, Tom goes, 'Yeah, I was born with it, kid.'"

Teller has also opened up in previous interviews about his intense training scheme to get fighting fit for the eagerly awaited sequel film.

Teller portrays Lieutenant Bradley Bradshaw, one of the latest crop of Top Gun pilots whose call sign Rooster pays homage to his late father and Maverick's friend Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw.

In an interview Joe, Teller opened up about his diet and workout plan for one of the scenes; playing football on the beach. He said: "I have a trainer that I that I've worked with for for a while now, and he's somebody that I just really trust.

"And I had a nutritionist, so I got somebody telling me what to eat, I've got a trainer telling me what I need to do for workouts, he's like, 'I'm gonna be there with you every step of the way'. So really, a lot of it is just showing up."

Whilst the actor makes it seem easy, it wasn't just as simple as turning up for a few sessions with a trainer. Teller explained that he went from 185 pounds to around 210 at nine percent body fat, only to then cut back down to 183 pounds with seven percent body fat for the beach scene.

Teller revealed how gaining weight was the toughest part, adding: "For breakfast, there was like six eggs and then you work out and then you have a shake.

"And then it was two lunches, each lunch would be chicken breast, a full potato and some broccoli.

"Then there would be another snack after that. And I remember for dinner specifically, it was 20 ounces of certain fish or steak. You're just eating so much. That's really what I didn't enjoy."
