Friends fans’ 'sad realization' after seeing heartbreaking Matthew Perry tribute

The actor died aged 54 last month

The death of Matthew Perry hit fans of the Friends show across the globe, leading some to come to a 'sad realization'.

After Perry died aged 54 last month, tributes flooded in across social media, praising his ability to bring the charm and comedic timing of his Friends character, Chandler Bing, to life.

His co-stars on the beloved sitcom - Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc - were said to be in attendance at Perry’s funeral.

In a touching tribute following Perry's passing, the Friends cast wrote: "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates.

"We are a family.

"There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able.

"For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."

The hosts of Have a Word podcast recently reflected on the impact Friends and Perry's character had on them while growing up. They also highlighted one fact many fans of the show hadn’t yet realized.

Co-host Adam Rowe said: "I have never been affected by a celebrity death quite like I was affected by [his].

"There have been more days in my life that I've heard his voice than days that I haven't. Chandler is my favorite character in anything."

Adam added that some people may not understand 'how important' the show is to fans.

He continued: "The saddest thing I realized that I haven't really seen anyone else say, is that, it might not be to the same level cause Chandler's my favorite one, but we're all gonna feel this way five more times."

After a clip of the podcast was shared on TikTok, many users realized that they had not thought about the likelihood that the rest of the main cast members would die and that they would feel equally as sad.

"We’re all gonna feel this way 5 more times’ wow, that really hit me," one user wrote.

Another commented: "The realization when he said that was mad."

Someone else said: "[5 more times?] Nah that has me fully sobbing."

Other TikTok users reflected on how rewatching the series would now be a sadder affair.

One wrote: "Now when I watch Friends it will be tinged with sadness. It will never be the same. Still brilliant."

A second admitted: “His movies and Friends helped me thru so much. I’m talking major depression and my mum's death. I have the boxset."

A final user penned: “It’s nice hearing other people talk about the positive impact Friends/Matthew Perry had in their lives. Makes it easier in a way.”
