DC fans are now thanking Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman for one last time in Black Adam.

As the Superman fandom was left shattered by the news that Cavill will no longer return to the big screen as Kal-El, many are thanking Johnson for recruiting the Brit for one last hurrah.

For those of you who missed Black Adam - spoiler alert - in its game-changing post-credit, we see Cavill stepping back into his famed red cape while telling Black Adam, 'we should talk', teasing his return to the franchise since 2017’s Justice League.

Shortly after, the actor announced that the rumours rang true - that he would return to DC.

However, it all came swiftly crashing down on December 15 when Cavill revealed that he would no longer be reprising the role that made him a household name.

The 39-year-old made the shocking announcement via an Instagram post: "I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.

"After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that's life."

He added that there are no hard feelings between him and the studio.

He continued: "The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.

"James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes."

As a result, fans are now basking in his last cameo in Black Adam while thanking The Rock, who famously ‘fought’ to have Cavill back in the universe.

One person wrote: “Thanks to @TheRock more than ever for bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman.”

Another said: “Thank you @TheRock for bringing Henry Cavill as Superman for one last time."

A third shared: “@TheRock Thank you for trying. We know how hard you worked on bringing Henry back for me, he will always be THE Superman.”

While another wrote: "THANK YOU MR CAVILL FOR RETURNING AS SUPERMAN IN BLACK ADAM. I also am grateful [to] The Rock for trying to get Cavill to return, but, sadly, James had different plans."

But, Perhaps this will free up Cavill’s schedule to step into the role of James Bond?

Who knows. But we're on the lookout, that's for sure.
