Henry Cavill refused to give new Superman actor ‘any tips’ for surprising reason

David Corenswet was announced as Henry Cavill's replacement following James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios takeover

Former Superman actors Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin reportedly weren’t willing to give David Corenswet ‘any tips’ when it came to him shrugging on the iconic DC mantle.

On Friday, July 11, the James Gunn and Peter Safran era of DC Studios officially begins with the anticipated cinematic release of Superman.

The superhero flick sees House of Cards’ Corenswet, 31, stepping out as the Kryptonian, becoming the ninth actor to take on the role of The Man of Steel.

Corenswet follows immediately in the footsteps of actors Cavill, 42, and Hoechlin, 37, the latest stars to portray Superman.

Before Corenswet was announced as the next iteration of Superman, Cavill took to social media in 2022 to confirm he’d become Clark Kent again after appearing beside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in Black Adam.

“I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman … Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded,” he wrote at the time.

But just a month later, the Gunn and Safran takeover was announced, and their plans seemingly didn’t include Cavill. The pair instead opted to cast Corenswet in the role, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Being snubbed may have been a tough pill to swallow for Cavill, who had exited his role on The Witcher, presumably because his future would be focused on more DC Studios projects, Variety wrote last year.

And although conspiracy theorists and fans alike may have believed there would be animosity between Cavill and Corenswet or that the former would have been bitter, it seems that’s not the case at all.

At the Superman premiere, Twisters star Corenswet revealed to Heart that he’d had ‘very encouraging’ conversations with both Cavill and Hoechlin, the latter of which has played Superman on 11 occasions.

“I had the pleasure of exchanging letters with two previous Supermans — Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin,” Corenswet said on the red carpet.

“Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words, ‘I’m not gonna try and give you any tips,’” he continued.

“And I think that’s a very Superman thing. Superman’s not so much for giving advice or dictating how other people should be.”

“They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of ‘have fun with it,'” Corenswet continued. “Which I think is Superman’s way of doing it too.”

Corenswet added that both the famous faces were still ‘very encouraging’, remarking that he had a ‘lovely experience’ communicating with them.

“I’m excited to meet them one day,” Corenswet stated. “It’ll be great when we can all get in a room together.”

While some film fans may be surprised to learn that there is no bad blood between Cavill and Corenswet, others knew the pair would be cool from the start.

One X user typed: “Zack Snyder and James Gunn like each other. And now David Corenswet and Henry Cavill like each other as well. But their fans still thinks they're imaginary enemies.”

“The torch has been passed,” said someone else.

A third user commented: “Cavill has always been a true professional and a solid person. Loved hearing this.”

However, another added: “You can hype up David Corenswet as Superman without dragging Henry Cavill, it’s giving weird obsession. Hope that helps.”

“I’m excited to see #Superman and yes I loved #ManOfSteel it was one of my favorite comicbook movies Henry Cavill was a great Superman and the way Zack Snyder filmed it was an experience like no other on film. But l’m ready to see James Gunn take and David Corenswet as Superman,” replied someone else.
