Cypress Hill confirm joke made on The Simpsons 27 years ago is coming true

The joke was first made in a classic episode from 1996

Hip hop group Cypress Hill have confirmed a joke made on The Simpsons almost 30 years ago is coming true.

The Simpsons is known for ‘predicting’ strange facets of the future, from tech like smart watches and speakers through to Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox and even Donald Trump becoming US president.

After appearing to have an eerie way of knowing what’s going to happen, it’s become a bit of a running joke with the show - which has even landed its very own ‘The Simpsons Predicts’ watchlist on streamer Disney+.

Now things have been turned on their head slightly by rap group Cypress Hill, who have confirmed a joke made on the series 27 years ago is... now happening for real.

In the ‘Homerpalooza’ episode, which first aired in 1996 as part of season seven, we see Homer partying with the hip hop group as he tries to work out what music genre is cool.

In a clip, which was recently shared on fan page @thesimpsonsig, a man comes into the room and asks who’s ordered the London Symphony Orchestra, adding ‘possibly while high’.

He goes on: “Cypress Hill, I’m looking in your direction.”

The group discuss if they did, indeed, order the orchestra, bewildered about what’s going on, before agreeing they have to do something about it.

Cypress Hill then turn to the orchestra and ask if they know how to play their 1993 hit ‘Insane in the Brain’.

“We mostly know classical, but we could give it a shot,” a violinist replies.

As the track plays, the orchestra joins in - a mashup that Marge Simpson approves of.

As the likes reeled in, in an incredible turn of events, Cypress Hill commented on the Instagram post to confirm that it was plotting to make the cartoon a reality.

“July in Denver with the Colorado symphony we are playing ‘Black Sunday’ in its entirety to celebrate the 30 yr anniversary,” the group wrote.

“After that we plan to make the gig with the London Symphony a reality. Salute to ‘The Simpson’s’ for birthing the idea."

While many fans are in constant awe about just how many successful predictions the show has produced, former showrunner Al Jean - who was one of the original writers back in 1989 - thinks there's a perfectly straightforward explanation.

Speaking to NME a few years back, Jean said: “One of our writers, the guy whose episode predicted Donald Trump as president, said it best: 'If you write 700 episodes, and you don’t predict anything, then you’re pretty bad. If you throw enough darts, you’re going to get some bullseyes'.”

Speaking of one the show’s most infamous predictions, he added: “The 9/11 one is so bizarre.

“In the World Trade Center episode, there was a brochure reading $9 a day with an 11 styled up like the towers. That was in ’96, which was crazy, like this insane coincidence.”
