Beetlejuice 2 premiere date finally revealed with Jenna Ortega set to star in sequel

The sequel a long time coming has finally been given a release date.

Beetlejuice is back, baby, and you don't have to say his name three times because it seems only twice will be enough... to have him return to cinemas, anyway.

Warner Bros. have finally given the second movie nearly four decades in the making a release date.

The second flick will scare its way into the hearts of new audiences on September 4 2024.

And, if you can't remember the first one - it did come out 35 years ago, to be fair - here's the trailer to refresh you.

While not too much is known about the plot of the follow-up film, what we do know is that the pesky poltergeist will return to screens under the watchful eye of Tim Burton, who directed the original 1988 film.

Also set to return are Michael Keaton as the big cheese himself, Beetlejuice, and Winona Ryder will reprise her role as iconic goth girl Lydia Deetz.

Wednesday's Jenna Ortega is also set to star in the upcoming spooky story.

Variety reports Ortega will play the daughter of Ryder’s character.

Additionally, Justin Theroux has a yet-to-be-revealed role in the upcoming flick, with production on the movie is expected to kick off in London on May 10.

The film will be produced by Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B.

Burton recently revealed that all bets are off for Beetlejuice 2, with the director telling Deadline at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, France that 'nothing is out of the question'.

"I only know if I’m making a film when I’m actually on the set shooting," the 64-year-old told the outlet.

He then added: "We’ll set how it goes. How’s that for a non-answer."

While not much is known about the plot of the second movie, we did scour the internet for clues and came up with this from IMDB.

Arrested Development's Will Arnett will appear as the Jersey Devil, while Stranger Things' David Harbour – no stranger to acting alongside Ryder – will play a 'struggling real estate agent'.

As for the plot, the site's listing states: "The original cast and crew plus new additions return when Beetlejuice is found homeless in the netherworld.

Say his name three times and he rocks up, apparently.

"He takes it upon himself to travel back to the mortal world seeking comfort, only to find the Maitland house has blown up due to a gas leak, leaving our beloved characters without a humble home to share the love.

"In search of guidance, the crew travels down to the Netherworld only to find there's a new sheriff in these parts, The Jersey Devil (Will Arnett)."

Sounds like a wild ride to us.

Which is exciting, as there's been a lot of talk over the years about whether we will ever see a Beetlejuice sequel.

But it's finally happening, people. This is not a drill.

Beetlejuice 2 will drop in cinemas on September 6, 2024.
